Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Sociedade Mineira de Catoca held Tuesday, in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), a technical-scientific conference with the aim of analyzing critical issues in the mining production process and the development of proposals that can be applied in the mine, having as a basis for the recommendation of proximity to academic universities.<\/b><\/p>\n

The conference was attended by senior company officials and academics, representing the Agostinho Neto University, Lueji A’Nkonde, Instituto Superior Metropolitano de Angola (IMETRO) and Lusi\u0301adas da Lunda Sul.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, the chairman of the Management Board and general director of Catoca, Benedito Manuel, said that it is of great importance, as it reflects the company’s vision in the perspective of continuing to be a catalyst for economic development. and social aspects of the country.<\/p>\n

The conference also aims, he pointed out, to establish a marriage between technique, derived from more than 28 years of experience, with the knowledge produced by academia, in order to jointly develop knowledge, innovative products and services, capable of contributing to the continuous improvement of processes linked to mining.<\/p>\n

He noted that it also represents an opportunity to share ideas about concrete problems, particularly identified in the operation of the Catoca mine, with a view to developing proposals for solutions, derived from this partnership between technology and higher education institutions.<\/p>\n

Benedito Manuel said that technical-scientific conferences will be held from next year onwards and will be increasingly closer to the academic community, so that the path of optimizing processes can be pursued, through continuous improvement actions.<\/p>\n

Catoca is located in the province of Lunda Sul and has existed for 28 years, being the fourth largest open pit mine in the world and responsible for more than 75 percent of the country’s diamond production.<\/p>\n

It employs more than ten thousand people, both direct and indirect.<\/p>\n
