Therefore, it recognizes and praises the role played by UNODC and the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations System and will continue to require the necessary partnerships in this field, with a view to constantly improving results and national indicators for preventing and combating corruption and related crimes.

“This entire coordinated exercise, which involves carrying out training and awareness-raising activities in society, has greatly contributed to the moralization of society, in particular the public entities responsible for managing public affairs”, he acknowledged.

The Minister of State highlighted the international recognition of the efforts that have been made by Angola in recent years, which culminated in the attribution of the International Asset Recovery Award, by the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for Southern Africa (ARINSA), to the Attorney General’s Office, last October, in Mauritius. He also referred to the 1st place obtained in the Report produced by Transparency International on the countries with the greatest changes in terms of preventing and combating corruption in the SADC Region.

For the reasons stated, Adão de Almeida reiterated the appeal of the Angolan Executive to strengthen international cooperation, in order to find bilateral and multilateral mechanisms that enable the rapid and facilitated reintegration, into the legal sphere of the Angolan State, of assets that are still located outside Angola, so that they serve as decisive contributions to the implementation of the various social and economic projects related to programs to combat poverty and increase national production.

Fight against corruption and impunity continues

Minister of State Adão de Almeida assured, Tuesday, that the Angolan State, under the leadership of President João Lourenço, remains committed to combating corruption and impunity.

The head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic said he believes that the recommendations that will be included in the final report of the Review Mechanism of the Second Cycle of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption will constitute another step towards improving actions aimed at prevention and repression of corruption in our Member States.

“As unequivocal proof of this national commitment, and as a result of the implementation of Resolution no 9/4 presented by Angola, Egypt, Portugal and Switzerland at the IX Conference of States Parties, it was held from 29 May to 2 June of the current year , in Angola, in partnership with UNODC, the ‘Conference on Combating Corruption: The Challenges of Regional Cooperation in the Implementation of the UN Convention’”, he highlighted.

On that occasion, he recalled, the Luanda Declaration was approved, a regional document that adopted and recommended the coordinated implementation of several anti-corruption measures signed by all member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In addition, and with the aim of consolidating the internal and coordinated effort between the institutions that intervene in the fight against this phenomenon, Adão de Almeida said that the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption was in the final stage of approval, which included the contribution of civil society, through a public consultation process and also incorporated various contributions resulting from the Regional Conference.

jornaldeangola

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
