Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS) launched, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the Social Security Expansion Project.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project, financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), aims to support the formalization of the Angolan economy, linked to a set of employment policies.<\/p>\n

It defines four strategic areas of activities that, if correctly designed and implemented, will have a positive impact on the level of Social Security coverage in Angola and the formalization program.<\/p>\n

The first area aims to support the Government in formulating a strategy to expand social security coverage, supported by a participatory approach and based on concrete data.<\/p>\n

The second is focused on ensuring that systems are created to adopt and apply the extension strategy, while the third has to do with strengthening the technical capabilities of relevant public institutions, which will be involved in the policy formulation and implementation process. of social protection systems.<\/p>\n

The fourth aims to ensure the active participation of workers, employers and other project stakeholders in capacity development interventions and social dialogue.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), Teresa Dias, said that the Angolan Executive is prepared and has intensified the effort to expand mandatory social protection with a view to including all citizens.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, in recent years MAPTSS has worked on improving the legal framework with a view to expanding mandatory social protection as well as including all those who are in the most needy situation, so that they can also have a regime that welcomes them.<\/p>\n

“At country level, we have enormous challenges and one of them is not just raising awareness among those who are not registered, but monitoring and supervising those employers who insist on not registering their workers despite paying discounts”, he said.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Chief Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Angola, Rosaria Bento, said that social protection plays a crucial role in promoting inclusive growth, with a focus on social justice and the realization of human rights, including decent work.<\/p>\n

For this reason, he continued, the project constitutes a fundamental element in the European Union’s cooperation relations with partner countries.<\/p>\n
