Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, urged this Thursday, in Luanda, Angolan deputies to respect the manual and parliamentary decorum and avoid hate speech in the hemicycle<\/b><\/p>\n

When speaking at the end-of-year greeting ceremony at the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira pointed out that legislators must use elevated language that dignifies the nobility of politics, avoiding hate speech.<\/p>\n

He recalled that hate speech was harshly condemned at the 54th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, held last November in Port Louis, Republic of Mauritius, an event in which Angola was represented at the highest level.<\/p>\n

In this regard, he said that at this meeting the member countries of the SADC Parliamentary Forum made a proposal for parliaments to approve a law that prevents “language of hate and insult to the dignity of each one of us’.<\/p>\n

“We are the guardians of concord and democratic vitality, an example for young generations and of tranquility among families and society in general, we have to set an example and I am convinced that we will leave this legacy”, he expressed.<\/p>\n

The parliamentary leader understands that political differences must be able to create safe bridges of dialogue, concord and consensus, “so that we can build and strengthen political peace and achieve the well-being of the people we represent with great pride” .<\/p>\n

She recognized that Parliament is a plural institution with voices that are not always consensual, but said she is convinced that everyone is driven by the public interest and respect for the people they represent.<\/p>\n

He appealed to parliamentary employees and agents for selfless dedication to their work, with a sense of responsibility, ethics, secrecy, institutional loyalty and solidarity with one another.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira wished everyone happy holidays and a prosperous new year “so that in 2024 we can give a strong message to the populations that, in this institution, we are defending Angola, Angolan women and men”.<\/p>\n

For her part, deputy Dolinda Tchinhama, representing her colleagues, highlighted the fact that the Angolan Parliament is a true house of democracy, par excellence, convergence of ideas and opinions.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he praised the leadership capacity of the president of the legislative body in maintaining peace, harmony, unity and cohesion in the hemicycle, considering fundamental elements for the stability of the legislative power.<\/p>\n

Deputy Dolinda Tchinhama also highlighted the dedication of the president of the National Assembly in defending gender equality and equity, human rights, coordination with the Executive Branch, as well as the exercise of parliamentary diplomacy.<\/p>\n

He also recognized that some of the deputies’ statements in the hemicycle had crossed the line of ethics and parliamentary decorum, considering a process of continuous learning.<\/p>\n
