Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens from different social strata interviewed applauded the Executive’s initiative, which aims to re-educate pedestrians and motorists to reduce road accidents in the country, with the proposal to review the Highway Code, approved by Decree-Law No. 5\/08 of September 29th.<\/b><\/p>\n

In Angola, road accidents constitute the second cause of death, after malaria. In the first half of this year, the country registered 7,232, resulting in in 1,256 deaths and 8,926 injured.<\/p>\n

A Professor Inoce\u0302ncia Bulosso defends the criminal liability of pedestrians who insist on crossing in inappropriate places, causing great embarrassment to road traffic and many result in pedestrian accidents.<\/p>\n

The measure, he said, serves to discourage such practices because, every day, we see cases of people crossing the road under pedestrians, putting one’s own life at risk.<\/p>\n

O Pastor of the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Zion, Abraa\u0303o Domingos Pereira, said that the revision of the Highway Code comes at a good time, with a view to improving the road environment in the 18 provinces.<\/p>\n

Abraham Domingos Pereira said that, in addition to the work being carried out by authorities, with public consultation to collect contributions from citizens, the church will sensitize the faithful to participate in this task of citizenship.<\/p>\n

Activity by motorcycle taxi<\/p>\n

O motorcycle taxi driver Adilson Domingos encouraged the Executive to continue the actions which aim to improve road traffic in the country, looking sensitively for people who have this activity as the only source of sustenance for their families.<\/p>\n

Other action that should be taken, he suggested, is the opening of more training centers to train motorcycle taxi drivers, in order to enable them to exercise their activity and obtaining a driving license.<\/p>\n

Main changes<\/p>\n

A proposed amendment to the Highway Code aims to achieve objectives strategies, such as improving the driver training process, expanding relief and support services for victims, develop a culture of education road safety, ensure efficient management of road safety and harmonize the national transport and transit system.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson of the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate of the National Police, chief superintendent Adriano do Rosa\u0301rio, said that the main changes introduced have to do with the new definitions of cycle path, road, passage levels, vulnerable pedestrians and streets.<\/p>\n

It was established, also, the express and clear provision of sanctions for organizers of sporting events involving vehicles, pedestrians and animals, in disrespect to the rules of the Code and related matters, as well as the minimum education level, which becomes the 12th class.<\/p>\n

Rate zero alcohol<\/p>\n

O new diploma provides, regarding the level of alcohol in the blood, three types of sanctions for driving while intoxicated. So, for those who carry out driving as a professional activity, the alcohol content is zero.<\/p>\n
