Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Three thousand and 600 liters of smuggled fuel (gasoline and diesel), which was destined for sale in the Republic of Namibia, were recovered by the National Police, during Operation ‘Okuliandja’, carried out from the 14th to the 17th of this month, in the province from Cunene.<\/b><\/p>\n

The police operation also allowed the seizure of seven vehicles with adapted tanks, five of which were national with Toyota Hiace and RAV 4 models and two Toyota Hilux, with Namibian registration, when they intended to cross the Santa Clara border, towards Namibia.<\/p>\n

The results of the police action also point to the seizure of five motorbikes, a firearm, five cartridges, a gas cylinder, 30 kilograms of drugs and the recovery of 24 head of cattle.<\/p>\n

When presenting the results of the operation, which took place this Tuesday, the director of Communication and Institutional Press of the National Police in Cunene, chief superintendent Nicolau Tuvecalela, said that the fuel was found in residences in the village of Santa Clara and Namacunde.<\/p>\n

He reported that, in recent times, those involved in fuel smuggling have altered vehicle tanks in order to transport the largest volume of the product, using unauthorized routes, to obtain profits.<\/p>\n

For alleged involvement in the crimes, 28 citizens were arrested, who in the dead of night robbed homes.<\/p>\n

Nicolau Tuvecalela ensured the continued reinforcement of actions to combat fuel smuggling along the border, as a way of discouraging this practice.<\/p>\n

He said that during this year, the Police in Cunene seized more than 40 vehicles, national and Namibian, with adapted tanks, intended for fuel smuggling, as well as 20 thousand and 810 liters of gasoline and diesel.<\/p>\n

The province of Cunene shares 460 kilometers with the Republic of Namibia, 340 of which are land and 120 are river.<\/p>\n
