Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) expressed this Friday, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), great concern about the peace and security situation on the continent, in particular the expansion of terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel region, Lake Chad Basin, in the Horn of Africa and Northern Mozambique.<\/b><\/p>\n

During a meeting, the ambassadors of Angola to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union (AU), Francisco da Cruz, and the one from the DRC, Jean-L\u00e9on Ngandu Ilunga, recognized that the recent increase in unconstitutional changes of government in Africa constitutes a serious challenge for the future, as it is undermining democratic legitimacy and contributing to political instability on the continent.<\/p>\n

In this sense, they underlined the importance of holding the Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government, scheduled for 28 May of this year, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on a proposal from Angola, to define strategies to combat terrorist and extremism, violent in Africa.<\/p>\n

The Malabo summit should also promote constitutionalism and the rule of law in order to consolidate democracy and inclusive governance for the comprehensive strengthening of peace, security and stability on the continent.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors praised the close cooperation relations between the two countries and the importance of the Tripartite Mechanism for Dialogue and Cooperation, which also involves South Africa. They highlighted the history of the Mechanism, created on 12 March 2013, as a framework for consolidating peace in the Great Lakes Region and safeguarding favorable conditions for the implementation of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Stability and Cooperation in the DRC.<\/p>\n

On August 24 of the same year, Angola, South Africa and the DRC signed the Memorandum of Understanding that creates the Tripartite Mechanism for Dialogue and Cooperation, taking into account common interests and the need to establish strategic cooperation to consolidate security. , stability and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

The diplomats also analyzed the question of the insertion of regional cadres (ECCAS and SADC) in the structures of the continental organization and welcomed the appointment of the democratic Congolese as the new director of Human Resources of the AU Commission, Nadege Tandu.<\/p>\n

They exchanged views on the current AU reform, within the framework of the implementation of the continental Agenda 2063, aiming at development and aiming at an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Francisco da Cruz praised the leadership of the DRC during the AU presidency that ended last February, while Jean-L\u00e9on Ngandu Ilunga shared his country’s experience at the helm of the continental organization’s destinies.<\/p>\n
