Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The lack of feed (soy and corn) has been affecting egg production in the province of Namibe in the last three months, according to Adriano Silva, owner of one of the largest poultry farms in Moc\u0327a\u0303medes, province of Namibe.<\/b><\/p>\n

The businessman said that the lack of soybeans and corn has affected the production of eggs, products that are consumed daily, in large quantities, by laying hens.<\/p>\n

The aviary, built on an area of \u200b\u200b17 hectares, has four aisles, three of which contain laying hens, with the capacity to produce 21 thousand eggs, at this point having a reduction of 14 thousand eggs per day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe country is not producing enough soybeans or corn, products that have been used as feed for laying hens and at this time we are buying soybeans in Portugal and South Africa, at a cost of 810 kwanzas per kilo\u201d, he asserted.<\/p>\n

For corn, Adriano Silva said that the poultry farm buys locally, in the province of Huii\u0301la, at 320 kwanzas per kilo, a price considered high, a fact that allowed egg production to be reduced at this time of year.<\/p>\n

The only chicken store produces 20 thousand \u201cchicken\u201d chickens, and in the last seven days, the aviary, placed on the market locally and in Luanda, 12 thousand live chickens for sale at a price of three thousand kwanzas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn recent days we had to sell these chickens, because they were gaining weight. When this happens, they eat a lot of food and we were forced to sell them alive so as not to have other financial expenses when purchasing the food\u201d, he informed.<\/p>\n

The person responsible also informed that due to the low egg production, the product is only being sold locally in the informal market, bakeries, pastry shops and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time of the festive season, we prefer to only serve the Namibe market, where there is a lot of demand for eggs. Every day we never have a stock of eggs. There are 40 boxes that go directly to the markets,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The egg card is being sold at 3,300 kwanzas each, with an egg costing 110 kwanzas.<\/p>\n

The poultry farm, with 35 workers, had an execution period of two years and was financed by Banco BAI, in line with the financing of Notice 10.<\/p>\n

For the second phase, construction of three more buildings is underway, two for laying hens and the other for chicken hens.<\/p>\n

Adriano Silva, quite ambitious, also hopes to invest in the third phase, with the construction of a slaughterhouse, chicken packaging and the implementation of incubators, an electric lighting system and other equipment, if he has financing in the order of one million US dollars.<\/p>\n
