Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola’s withdrawal from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), culminating in the sending of the formalization of this decision to the organization, marked the economic news of the week that ends Saturday. <\/b><\/p>\n

In the document sent to OPEC, the Government of Angola states that the voluntary exit will take place from January 1, 2024.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET), the communication was sent to the secretary general of OPEC, Haitham AL Ghais, with a view to formalizing Angola’s withdrawal from the intergovernmental organization.<\/p>\n

The country’s decision to abandon OPEC, which it voluntarily joined in 2006, follows the 36th Ministerial Meeting of this Organization and its allies, held on 30 November this year, via videoconference, which decided to grant Angola a production quota of 1,110 million barrels of crude oil per day.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Minister Diamantino Azevedo explained that the decision \u201cwas not taken unanimously” and contradicted Angola’s position, meaning that the Angolan Government reiterated and maintained its proposal to produce 1,180 million barrels of crude oil per day, in 2024. .<\/p>\n

On the subject, oil businessman Pedro Godinho argued that Angola’s departure from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) \u201cwill not negatively impact the business environment\u201d of this sector.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the country has \u201cthe target of producing 1 million and 800 thousand barrels of oil per day in the near future\u201d, which could reduce the impact of losses.<\/p>\n

Pedro Godinho understands that Angola should already announce its withdrawal in 2015, when its production capacity was below the quota established by OPEC.<\/p>\n

Still in the oil sector, the Governments of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) signed, on Thursday, in Luanda, the Oil Production Sharing Contract in Block 14\/23, located in the Zone of Common Interest (ZIC ), a historic act that comes 20 years after negotiations between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The document was signed by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas of Angola, Diamantino de Azevedo, and the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the DRC, Didier Ntubuanga, as well as representatives of the contractor companies that will operate in this oil field.<\/p>\n

With this legal instrument, ZIC, created in 2007, is now operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC), a subsidiary of Chevron in Angola, with a 31% stake, while Azule Energy, BP and ENI (20% ), in a ‘joint-venture’, ETU Energias (20%), GALP (9%), Sonangol (10%) and Sonahydroc SA (10%) are the consortiums of this offshore block.<\/p>\n

Also highlighted this week were the statements made by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, that the Lobito Corridor Transit Facilitation Agency is an extremely important instrument for the integration of the economies of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.<\/p>\n

The government official, who was speaking at the end of the first meeting of the Agency’s Committee of Transport Ministers, held in Lobito (Benguela), stated that the agency will promote commercial exchanges, investment opportunities and leverage initiatives that benefit the three countries and peoples.<\/p>\n

Ricardo D’Abreu recalled the date of the agreement’s creation, in January this year, highlighting the presence of presidents Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, from Angola, Felix Tshisekedi, from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Hakainde Hichilema, from Zambia, in Lobito.<\/p>\n

Along these lines, Zambia’s Minister of Transport, Museba Frank Tayali, stated that his Government is making “great advances” in infrastructure to support the Lobito Corridor.<\/p>\n

Although he did not specify, the Zambian ruler told the press that the Coperbelt region, northwest of his country, is where there are essential minerals to be transported through the corridor.<\/p>\n

According to him, on December 14th this year, the Zambia Parliament ratified a document related to the Lobito Corridor, which it considered an important milestone for integration and involvement in the project.<\/p>\n

In the economic news of the week, it was also highlighted the fact that, on Tuesday, the first commercial cargo flight, coming from Lagos, Nigeria, had landed at the Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda.<\/p>\n

This is the 737-800 Cargo aircraft, operated by the Angolan company TAAG, which went to Nigeria with three thousand kilograms of cargo, having returned to Luanda with ten thousand kilograms.<\/p>\n

The landing of the first cargo aircraft at the new airport comes 39 days after its inauguration, which took place on November 10th of this year.<\/p>\n

By the end of December this year, commercial flights operated, among other companies, by the multinational DHL, Ethiopian Airlines and Sinotrans, in partnership with Hull Blyth, are expected to land and pick up from AIAAN.<\/p>\n

Along with the first cargo plane, which landed at Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto International Airport, TAAG, Linhas Ae\u0301reas de Angola, announced that it has reinforced its fleet by incorporating, on a leasing basis, three new Boeing 737 model aircraft, namely a B737-800 cargo plane and two B737-700 passenger aircraft.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the operator, the acquisition of the new aircraft is part of its commercial dynamics and the improvement of its service levels and options.<\/p>\n

In the productive sector, last week several actions stood out, such as the fact that fifty-three thousand and 18 tons of fish of various species were caught in the first three quarters of 2023, in the province of Benguela, an increase of 5,221 tons compared to 2022. .<\/p>\n

Of the total caught, mainly by siege gear, 44,937 tons corresponded to frozen fish processed in companies in the sector, according to statistics – still provisional – from the Benguela Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.<\/p>\n

Among the species caught by the Benguela fishing fleet, with more than 90 industrial and semi-industrial vessels, the highlight is sardines, which reached 27,290 tons (4,344 more) and horse mackerel, with 10,940 tons (3,049 more).<\/p>\n

Still in Benguela, the salt industry produced 102 thousand and 696 tons, from January to September this year, 34 thousand and 180 tons less than in the same period in 2022.<\/p>\n

According to provisional data from the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, by September last year, salt production had reached 136 thousand and 876 tons of the product.<\/p>\n

Of the 102,696 tons of raw salt produced until the third quarter of 2023, 65,879 correspond to iodized salt.<\/p>\n

In the province of Cuanza Sul, in 2023, it recorded a gross agricultural production of three thousand tons of field products, including cereals, tubers, legumes, vegetables and fruit.<\/p>\n

Reading the annual balance, at the year-end greetings ceremony, in the presence of governor Job Capapinha and members of the Government, the secretary general of Cuanza Sul, Hila\u0301rio Jose\u0301 Mucase, said that the province contributed greatly to national production agricultural-based.<\/p>\n

Of the gross production, according to the source, 762 tons are of cereals, a thousand tons of roots and tubers, 107 tons of legumes and oilseeds, 200 tons of vegetables and 996 tons of fruit.<\/p>\n
