Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Climate Action and Sustainable Development, Paula Cristina Francisco Coelho, praised, on Saturday, in the town of Hogiwa, the Kitabanga Project, as an initiative that aims to protect sea turtles, which are in danger of extinction.<\/b><\/p>\n

Paula Cristina Coelho, who spoke to the press on the sidelines of the field trip of the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, which consisted of a visit to the sea turtle nesting sites, and the return of turtle newborns to the sea, and the Ecological Christmas with the children from the Hogiwa region, recognized the scope of the Kitabanga Project, for protecting turtles against acts of human predation.<\/p>\n

“The Kitabanga Project is an initiative that aims to mobilize the Angolan Government on the need for greater involvement of all the country’s living forces in the defense of the environment and marine biodiversity. Therefore, we call for the unification of wills towards cause,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister considered the presence of the President of the Republic in the town of Hogiwa an incentive for the Angolan people, in terms of environmental preservation, and, more specifically, in the defense of sea turtles, which are at risk of extinction. “The challenge has been launched for all Angolans to engage in environmental protection, but, above all, for sea turtles”, she highlighted.<\/p>\n

National imperative<\/p>\n

Government officials present in the town of Hogiwa, the place chosen for the return of 287 sea turtle newborns to the sea, in which the act had the active participation of the President and the First Lady of the Republic, considered that the time had come to raise national awareness about the Nature conservation, more specifically the protection of marine biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, praised the slogan attributed to Ecological Christmas, according to which “Change begins with us”, adding that environmental protection must be seen as a national premise.<\/p>\n

“Environmental preservation competes in two dimensions, namely the defense of ecology and environmental sustainability, therefore, the act we have just witnessed is of capital importance and must engage all Angolans”, he said.<\/p>\n

The holder of the Culture and Tourism portfolio considered that the presence of the President of the Republic at the act of education and environmental preservation reflects the country’s political commitment to the protection of Nature. “With this act we are faced with a political commitment from the Angolan State in matters of environmental protection”, he concluded.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Minister of Health, Si\u0301lvia Lutucuta, considered that the presence of the President of the Republic shows the sensitivity of political power towards the defense of the environment and conservation of Nature. “With the presence of the President of the Republic, in the act of returning newborn turtles to the sea, the challenge is launched to all Angolans, especially those who live in locations bathed by the sea, about the obligation to get involved in defense and protection, not only of sea turtles, but also of other species threatened with extinction\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n
