Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The United States wants to strengthen economic ties with Angola and is investing in the diversification of sectors of activity, seeking a shared \u201cprosperity\u201d, declared the US ambassador to the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

One of the priorities of the United States Administration is to “bring prosperity to the world”, a shared prosperity that benefits both the Angolan people and the American people, recently arrived diplomat Tulinabo Mushingi told Lusa.<\/p>\n

“That is why we are trying to strengthen economic ties and deepen trade between the two,” he continued, adding that, currently, 63 US companies operate in Angola, but the United States wants to increase this presence and diversify the sectors in which it operates, in addition to of the traditional “oil and gas”.<\/p>\n

“We are following not only our foreign policy and what US companies want, but also the policy of the Angolan Government, which is to diversify its economy”, said the diplomat.<\/p>\n

Telecommunications operator Africell, which has already invested US$300 million in Angola and intends to create around 6,000 jobs over the next five years, should soon start operating in the country, he noted.<\/p>\n

Also recent in the country are Quantem, a US capital consortium that won the tender for the construction of the Soyo Refinery, in Zaire province, and Sun Africa, which is developing a photovoltaic solar project in seven Angolan provinces.<\/p>\n

Tulinabo S.Mushingi stressed that the current concerns with climate change imply the need to make the transition from fossil energies to clean energies, which “will not be easy neither in the USA, nor in other countries like Angola”.<\/p>\n

The diplomat stressed that US companies have some characteristics in common: the transfer of technology and know-how, the incorporation of local content, as well as the creation of jobs.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted other priorities of his mission in line with President Joe Biden’s foreign policy, including the fight against Covid-19, since “health security is also part of national security”.<\/p>\n

Another objective is to safeguard democracy and good governance. “Democracy is not unique, but it has some basic principles that we must all agree on, such as freedom of expression, freedom to vote, non-violence, human rights,” he said.<\/p>\n
