Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The secretary of the Provincial Youth Council (CPJ) in Cunene, Praia Chivela, defended this Wednesday the need to intensify inspection and pedagogical prevention for motorists, motorcycle taxi drivers and pedestrians, on the importance of actions to combat accidents bus station.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement regarding the road prevention campaign during the festive season, he praised the population’s awareness, with particular emphasis on young people, who are the biggest protagonists and victims of accidents, in order to take precautions when driving.<\/p>\n

Praia Chivela highlighted that the festive period is a time of great euphoria, combined with the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, which is why it is essential that the population opts for a sense of responsibility and prudence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current situation of road accidents in our country and in the province in particular worries our management, which is why we need to raise awareness among our motorists, motorcycle taxi drivers and pedestrians about the need to be increasingly cautious\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

He recalled that road accidents are the second cause of death in Angola, after malaria, a fact that requires the various sectors to redouble their activities, aiming to reduce road accidents and achieve the desired peace on the roads.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, he made it known that CPJ, in partnership with INALUD, developed a campaign to prevent road accidents during the festive season from the 2nd to the 23rd of December, which helped 500 motorcycle taxi drivers in the city of Ondjiva become aware.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the action is part of the organization’s objectives, to help the police raise awareness among citizens about the dangers of reckless driving on the roads.<\/p>\n

Data from the Cunene Provincial Road Safety Department indicates that in the period from January to November 15 of this year, the deaths of 61 people were recorded and 499 were injured, resulting from 349 accidents.<\/p>\n

Compared to the same period in 2022, he said there was an increase of 80 accidents, 18 deaths and 126 injuries, whose indicators contradict the purpose for which the aforementioned council was created.<\/p>\n

Lack of prudence, associated with disqualification from driving, excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, poor technical condition of vehicles, dangerous maneuvers and poor pedestrian crossing, are identified as the main causes of accidents.<\/p>\n
