Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The authorization for the construction of 14 bridges on National Road 240, in the Quibala\/Gabela section, Cuanza Sul province, to facilitate the flow of products to the country’s main commercial centers was one of the highlights of the economic area this week, which Saturday ends.<\/b><\/p>\n

The contract, authorized by the President of the Republic, through Presidential Order No. 350\/23 of December 22, is valued at 55.87 million euros, for the public works contract and construction of the respective infrastructures. For inspection of the work, the estimated value is 1,254 million kwanzas.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing is delegated powers, with the ability to sub-delegate, to approve the parts of the procedure, as well as to verify the validity and legality of all acts carried out within the scope of the procedure, including the execution and the signing of contracts.<\/p>\n

In addition to the bridges to be built in Cuanza Sul, the President of the Republic also authorized the rehabilitation of the Cunje\/Catabola\/Camacupa section, a 71.80 kilometer stretch of National Road 250, in the province of Bie\u0301.<\/p>\n

The execution of the works results from Presidential Order No. 305\/23 of December 22, which authorizes the contract and formalizes the opening of the simplified contracting procedure, using material criteria, for the award of contracts.<\/p>\n

According to this document, the rehabilitation of the road, costing more than 91 million dollars, is of great importance for the South and East corridor of the country, as it is the main connection with the Republic of Zambia. In this work, a global expenditure of 1,902 million kwanzas is expected for inspection.<\/p>\n

This week was also marked by the working visit of the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, to the province of Moxico, where she recommended carrying out an inspection into the causes of the paralysis of social projects in this locality, with a view to finding mechanisms for its conclusion.<\/p>\n

According to the official, there are cases in which the contractor received a large part of the value, but does not have the technical capacity to continue, a situation that will require an in-depth assessment by technical groups for a possible termination of contracts with these companies.<\/p>\n

Among the projects visited by Vera Daves, two school projects for five thousand students that were suspended 11 years ago stand out.<\/p>\n

This involves the requalification and expansion of the primary school ‘Comandante Kwenha’, located in the center of Luena (provincial capital), designed for 28 classrooms, as well as the completion of the future Luena Polytechnic Institute, with 32 classrooms. classroom.<\/p>\n

The two school infrastructures together make up 60 classrooms, with the capacity to accommodate 5,400 students, in a region that has a deficit of 896 classrooms, as well as more than 70,000 children outside the education system.<\/p>\n

For this infrastructure, the head of Finance also visited another school unit with 19 rooms in the Tchifuchi neighborhood, initially financed by the Integrated Plan for Intervention in the Municipality (PIIM), but which was paralyzed, supposedly, due to financial incapacity.<\/p>\n

It also noted the progress of the works on the Mother and Child Center, which began in 2018, budgeted at 18 million kwanzas, however, its completion has been constantly postponed due to financial difficulties.<\/p>\n

Still following Minister Vera Daves de Sousa’s visit to the province of Moxico, the director general of the Public Debt Management Unit, Dorivaldo Teixeira, said that the certified debt owed to companies providing services to the State, in the period 2013- 2019, is valued at 2.5 billion kwanzas.<\/p>\n

According to the official, in addition to these amounts, 93 billion kwanzas are pending certification by the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE).<\/p>\n

In the national productive sector, the highlight was the inflow of three million, 567 thousand and 500 US dollars, as a result of the export of 1,427 tons of commercial coffee (Robusta Ambriz and Amboim) made by licensed companies, in the 2022\/2023 agricultural campaign , representing an increase of 37%, compared to the same harvest.<\/p>\n

The fact was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Anto\u0301nio Francisco de Assis, during the end-of-year greeting ceremony, having named Portugal, Morocco, Spain and Germany as the main destinations for exporting Angolan coffee.<\/p>\n

In the period in question, he said, 6,229 tons of coffee were harvested, of which 656 tons were cultivated by the business sector, registering a variation of 19.7% compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

In addition to coffee exports, the minister also highlighted the sale of 18 thousand kilograms of cocoa beans abroad this year, an amount still lower than expected, but a milestone for the beginning of the revitalization of this crop.<\/p>\n

Without specifying the amount raised from this export, Anto\u0301nio Francisco de Assis said that 40 thousand cocoa seedlings were produced and distributed, an action that led to the emergence of new areas for promoting this product.<\/p>\n

He stated that, in addition to the province of Cabinda, which is traditional for cocoa cultivation, the production of this crop has spread to other provinces of the country, such as Zaire, Bengo, Ui\u0301ge, Cuanza Norte and Cuanza Sul, a fact that opens up good prospects for increase in production over the next three years.<\/p>\n

In the field of Industry and Commerce, the minister of this sector, Rui Migue\u0302ns, considered that the reforms carried out in the Strategic Food Reserve (REA) will support the recovery of the maximum production capacity installed in the Angolan industrial fabric, a fact that will boost the increase in production of food goods in the country.<\/p>\n

According to the government official, who spoke during the end-of-year greeting ceremony, most Angolan industries only operate between 10 and 30 percent of their installed capacity, a scenario that could change with the new REA measures, aiming make it possible to increase production quotas.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he announced that the first phase of the restructuring will begin to be implemented from January 2024, specifically with the entry into operation of minimum prices for some agricultural products.<\/p>\n

Still in the commercial segment, the inspection of 360 commercial establishments carried out by the National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA), within the framework of Operation Christmas 2023, was also highlighted, which resulted in the identification of 733 various infractions.<\/p>\n

The Operation, which began on November 15th of this year and ends on January 5th, 2024, made it possible to detect price speculation on products such as Gulkis milk, chicken thighs, cooking oil, black beans, among others.<\/p>\n

In the same period, several goods were also seized due to deterioration and others beyond their expiration date, such as cheese, rice, eggs, chorizo, black beans, cornmeal, turkey tails, Roman brand yellow cornmeal, flour kianda wheat, powdered milk and bread yeast.<\/p>\n

In relation to drinks, crates of coca-cola, welwitchia, speed and passion fruit blue were also seized.<\/p>\n

Operation Christmas 2023, of preventive and punitive nature, covers all large importers, medium-sized companies and distributors of consumer products that make up the basic food basket.<\/p>\n

In the field of transport, the national airline – TAAG announced that its passengers will, from January 1, 2024, have the possibility of purchasing extra space for hand and hold luggage, without limitation of articles.<\/p>\n

According to TAAG, the measure aims to provide passengers with greater convenience in the personal items admitted in the different formats of hand and hold baggage.<\/p>\n

As a result, passengers who purchase extra spaces in advance will benefit from lower fares, as well as more items being allowed as luggage, namely musical instruments, sporting equipment, pets or perishable goods.<\/p>\n

Also in the week ending, it was also highlighted the fact that the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) held an electronic auction for the acquisition of 102 motor cultivators, to promote the mechanization of family farming and contribute to increasing productivity in the 2024 agricultural season\/ 2025 in the country.<\/p>\n

To this end, FADA has 900 million kwanzas available to purchase 12 lots of equipment such as moldboard and disc plows, furrowers, rotary hoes, grain fertilizers, among others, which will be distributed to various agricultural cooperatives nationwide.<\/p>\n

In the auction, which lasted forty-five minutes, the company Ferpinta Angola sold seven lots, while Royal Empire Trading sold three lots and Omarf two lots.<\/p>\n

The equipment, which will be distributed through financing, aims to reinforce the productive capacity of farmers and contribute to the well-being of communities, as well as guaranteeing food security, with the next agricultural campaigns.<\/p>\n
