Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Society of Lawyers in Ui\u0301ge defends that there should be more speed in the processing of non-criminal proceedings, expressing concern about the slowness seen in court services, which reduces confidence and security in the judicial system, as well as harming the principle of Rule of Law and legality.<\/b><\/p>\n

During the Provincial Forum on the State of Justice in Ui\u0301ge, the administrator of the Sociedade dos Advogados in Ui\u0301ge, Edgar Domingos, said, Thursday, that these factors constitute a problem that has raised concerns among users of Justice services.<\/p>\n

“We have had procedural demands that take many years to be decided, even those of an urgent nature, because precautionary measures end up taking much longer than the expected time”, he recalled, adding that these and other issues motivated the holding of the Forum to define strategies operational in 2024.<\/p>\n

For lawyer Amadeu Epalanga, the slowness of non-criminal proceedings reduces citizens’ trust in the judicial system, compromises legal certainty and security, in addition to violating the Rule of Law, which has the principle of legality at its epicenter.<\/p>\n

Amadeu Epalanga noted that the reduced number of judges and prosecutors is one of the causes of procedural slowness, taking into account the population ratio in the region, stressing that in order to change the situation, Justice needs to be reinforced with more human resources.<\/p>\n

When speaking about “respect for the prerogatives of lawyers and the relationship with judicial magistrates and the Public Prosecutor’s Office”, the Ui\u0301ge delegate of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA), Lando Marcelo, said that there are violations of immunities and prerogatives of lawyers, which \u201ctightens\u201d the relationship between them.<\/p>\n

Lando Marcelo reported, on the occasion, that the Justice sector in Ui\u0301ge has 152 lawyers, of which 52 are permanent and 100 interns, an insufficient number to serve the local population. \u201cFor minimum coverage, we need more than two thousand lawyers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
