Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Fifteen thousand pensioners were deactivated, in the province of Moxico, as part of the registration process carried out by the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information comes from the director of the provincial Office of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Alberto Keshipoco, when he spoke, on the occasion of the celebration of Martyrs’ Day of colonial repression, which is celebrated today, January 4th.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the registration process made it possible to identify nine thousand pensioners with the required requirements, out of the 24 thousand who benefited from former combatants’ pensions.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome were underage, while others did not have cases\u201d, he reported.<\/p>\n

In this ceremony, cards of former combatants were symbolically handed over, with a view to benefiting from social assistance, such as access to public transport, health and other services.<\/p>\n

The vice-governor for the technical sector and infrastructures, Wilson Augusto, said that the celebration of the 4th of January aims to express solidarity and recognition to the families and survivors of the massacre in downtown Cassanje, \u201cwho are still suffering the consequences of this tragedy.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the Government’s work to improve the living conditions of former combatants, with their insertion in productive activities, with an impact on family farming.<\/p>\n

The revolt of peasants in the Baixa de Kassanje region against the Portuguese colonial regime, on January 4, 1961, in the former Portuguese-Belgian company of Cotonang, in Malanje, as well as the beginning of the armed struggle, on February 4 of the same year , promoted the achievement of National Independence, on November 11, 1975.<\/p>\n
