Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The government of the province of Cuanza Norte praised this Thursday, in Ndalatando, the patriotic spirit of the heroes of Baixa de Cassanje, demonstrated on January 4, 1961, with a view to liberation from the Portuguese colonial yoke.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement on the occasion of the 4th of January, a day dedicated to the Martyrs of Colonial Repression, it is highlighted that the revolt constitutes one of the important milestones in the national liberation struggle, along with the 4th of February 1961, and other acts, which culminated in the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975.<\/p>\n

Despite the harsh and cowardly response of the Portuguese colonial authorities, with the massacre of defenseless populations, the document reads, this event further deepened the nationalist consciousness of the Angolan people, determined to defend their \u201cjust interests and rights\u201d.<\/p>\n

It emphasizes that the celebration of the date reinforces the consecration of the status of national heroes to its creators.<\/p>\n

The Cuanza Norte government reaffirms its willingness to promote actions that aim to praise Angolans, as well as creating social and economic conditions to honor and dignify the country’s former combatants and veterans.<\/p>\n

Consider them a source of inspiration for the preservation of national patriotic consciousness and an example for the education of youth and future generations.<\/p>\n

The event takes place under the motto: \u201cWith the spirit of the 4th of January, former combatants united for the development of Angola\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the government defends the reinforcement of agricultural production, within the framework of the country’s economic diversification and guarantee of food security, as well as the construction of a society based on justice, solidarity, peace, equality and social progress.<\/p>\n

The peasant revolt in Baixa de Kassanje (Malanje), which occurred on January 4, 1961, awakened Angolans’ awareness of the need to fight for their self-determination and independence.<\/p>\n
