Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Cacusso fish production in the province of Ui\u0301ge reached 84 thousand 970 tons in 2023, compared to 80 thousand 152 in the previous year, according to the local Department of Fisheries.<\/b><\/p>\n

This Friday, the head of the Fisheries Department in Ui\u0301ge, Jose\u0301 Kupessa, said that the increase in catches was due to the increase in aquaculture projects from 113, in 2022, to 359, in 2023.<\/p>\n

The province of Ui\u0301ge has a total of 3,820 tanks dedicated to cacusso production.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Kapessa pointed out the municipalities of Maquela do Zombo, Ui\u0301ge, do Negage, Bungo, Damba, Mucaba and Cangola as those that stood out most in the production of cacusso fish in the region.<\/p>\n

In relation to artisanal fishing, the performance was in the opposite direction with the capture of 72 thousand 107 tons of various fish, compared to 76 thousand in the previous period, in 47 associations and eight cooperatives in the province, he stated.<\/p>\n

The person responsible justified this reduction in catch levels by the scarcity of fishing material such as hooks, nets and buoys.<\/p>\n

For this year, it announced the implementation of a program that aims to deliver artisanal fishing material to fishermen in the region, supported by the International Fund for Agrarian Development (IFAD), aiming to promote artisanal fishing.<\/p>\n
