Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The deputy governor of Zaire for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso, condemned, this Monday, in Mbanza Kongo, the acts of vandalization of historical sites and cultural assets in the region.<\/b><\/p>\n

The governor, who was speaking at the provincial event commemorating National Culture Day, which is celebrated, asked the population to serve as guardians of national culture, as well as to value classified and yet-to-be-classified historical places and sites.<\/p>\n

He considered the continuous training of local cultural creators and promoters to be essential, in order to keep up with the dynamics imposed by the technological era, without neglecting the teaching of the arts, the restoration of built heritage and the encouragement of research and recovery of the heritage of intangible culture.<\/p>\n

He therefore highlighted the need to integrate culture into the process of economic development, and its management must be carried out according to the principles of modernity and advances in new technologies in the communication sphere.<\/p>\n

For the vice-governor of Zaire, culture is dynamic and evolves depending on material conditions, stressing that at each stage of history it corresponds to a form of expression and implementation that suits the circumstances.<\/p>\n

Afonso Nzolameso highlighted the fact that culture serves as a substrate for national unity and an essential factor in asserting the country’s sovereignty, promotion and development.<\/p>\n

The vice-governor who represented the provincial governor at this event, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, reaffirmed the Angolan Executive’s commitment to complying with UNESCO’s recommendations on Mbanza Kongo.<\/p>\n

Mbanza Kongo, the capital of the former Kingdom of Kongo, was inscribed on the list of Cultural Heritage of Humanity on July 8, 2017.<\/p>\n

A lecture on the theme \u201cvaluation and preservation of Angolan historical-cultural heritage-raising awareness among youth\u201d also marked the event surrounding National Culture Day in Zaire.<\/p>\n

It was up to the university professor, sociologist Zolana Avelino, to speak on the topic, in front of a vast auditorium made up of members of the Government, academics, technicians from the local department of Culture, representatives of various churches, traditional authorities, among other guests.<\/p>\n
