Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The production of handicrafts in the province of Hui\u0301la is registering a significant drop, plastic artists from Lubango admitted Monday, blaming the market’s poor response to supplying raw materials.<\/b><\/p>\n

In separate interviews, on the occasion of National Culture Day, which is marked today, art makers were unanimous in highlighting that, due to inflation, artisans find it difficult to develop their activities, as in addition to there being a weak demand, the market also does not have quality raw materials.<\/p>\n

The artisan, Adelina Ma\u0301rio, for more than seven years, said that she produces beads, hats and necklaces, in small quantities due to lack of customers, combined with the difficulty of acquiring raw materials, especially accessories that the country does not produce.<\/p>\n

The visual artist, with a 15-year career, Cla\u0301ver Cruz, considered that the production of paintings has become derisory, because national buyers, above all, complain about the prices, but forget that the raw material is not national.<\/p>\n

He also defended the \u201curgent\u201d need to create policies that aim to improve the purchase of raw materials, through customs incentives, so that they contribute more to the appreciation of culture and art, in addition to the development of tourism in the region.<\/p>\n

Another craftsman with a 30-year career, Pascoal Ba\u0301ndua \u201cPadu\u0301\u201d, stated that he makes paintings with images of tourist sites, in order to expand, across borders, tourist diversity and the potential of infrastructures classified as heritage, but he experiences limitations in production, due to the increase in labor costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe production of parts, the rise in prices in the informal and formal market, has complicated our work, even so, we are working slowly, not at the level we would like\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

On the subject, the director of the provincial office of culture, tourism, youth and sports, Osvaldo Lunda, acknowledged the dissatisfaction of art makers, but believes that the government’s policies are visible to the sector and at any time, hoping for an aggravation of the price of these raw materials on the international market, as well as investments for their production in the country.<\/p>\n

National culture day was established with reference to the speech on National Culture given in 1979 by the first President of Angola, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, during the inauguration of the managing body of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA).<\/p>\n
