Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Work to seal the ravine that threatens to destroy the high voltage poles, in the Bele\u0301m do Dango area, in the municipality of Huambo, began this Wednesday, as part of an initiative by the Ministry of Construction, Urbanism and Housing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The erosion, considered to be of great proportion, is almost a kilometer long, 60 meters wide and another 70 meters deep, the progression of which occurred as a result of the rains that fall regularly in this region of the country’s Central Plateau.The consignment notice for the work, which marks the beginning of work, was guided by the Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Grego\u0301rio dos Santos, in the company of the vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructures of the province of Huambo, Elmano Francisco. The contract to contain and stabilize the ravine will be carried out in eight months, with a budget of two billion, 427 million, 913 thousand 934 Kwanzas and 61 cents, having generated 42 jobs.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Grego\u0301rio dos Santos, said it was a worrying ravine, as it put at risk the high voltage power poles, which guarantee electrical energy to the population, in addition to threaten to destroy the railway line. Therefore, he advised compliance with the stipulated deadlines, taking into account the intense rains that fall in this region of the country. The official informed that, of the national inventory, of which there are 742 ravines, 27 are located in the province of Huambo, mostly in the municipalities of Caa\u0301la, Longonjo and Sede.<\/p>\n

Representing the contractor, Ezequias Romano, he said that, in the first phase, he will focus on earthmoving work, based on depth re-profiling and, subsequently, on macro drainage, which will collect water from the other part that gives access to the ravine erosion process. In the end, he continued, the conditions will be created to dissipate the waters, so that they do not create another ravine in the future. In turn, the administrator of the municipality of Huambo, Azevedo Manuel Cambiambia, recalled that several high voltage poles from the national grid are located in the Bele\u0301m do Dango area, which is why the ravine needs to be intervened urgently so as not to harm public assets.Therefore, he praised the commitment of the Ministry of Construction, Urban Planning and Housing, which, after the local authorities presented the package of existing ravines, is promptly intervening, easing the problems of local communities.<\/p>\n

Huambo\/Benguela section<\/p>\n

The Minister of Construction, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Grego\u0301rio dos Santos, also guided the start of the work to restore the hydraulic crossing on national road 260, Huambo\/Benguela section, in the municipality of Longonjo. The work, to be carried out in two months, with a budget of 161 million Kwanzas, aims to place a hydraulic passage on two sides, with a diameter of 1.5 meters each and a length of 14 meters, with a view to facilitating desilting the water, so as not to damage the road. By the way, Minister Carlos Grego\u0301rio dos Santos said it was a hydraulic crossing that gave way in 2023, in which a diversion will be created in the coming days, with vertical signage, to facilitate the work. He referred to it as an emergency intervention, which requires patience from the population during the two months of execution of the project, so that there is a healthy road environment. Located in the Central Highlands of Angola, the province of Huambo, with an area of \u200b\u200b35,771 square kilometers and a population of over two million, 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed in 11 municipalities, has a rainy period of the year that lasts approximately nine months, from August 15th to May 15th.<\/p>\n
