Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-four thousand and 777 criminal cases were initiated during the year 2023, by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in the southern Judicial Region, reported this Monday in the province of Cunene, the accompanying coordinator Herna\u0302ni Beira Grande.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening act of the IV extended review meeting of the Southern Judicial Region of the PGR which takes place from the 15th to the 16th of this month in the city of Ondjiva, he said that these were criminal, civil, administrative, family, labor and minors, of these five thousand and seventy-seven were referred to the courts.<\/p>\n

Of the cases sent to court, 20 are of an economic nature, linked to corruption and money laundering, which demonstrates the body’s commitment to combating corruption, nepotism and other related crimes.<\/p>\n

The Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate said that the meeting aims to evaluate the performance of the PGR bodies of the civil and military forum in the provinces of Cunene, Cuando Cubango, Hui\u0301la and Namibe, as well as to plan actions for the current year.<\/p>\n

Beira Grande said it was the fourth review meeting held by the institution, whose dynamics gave greater proximity and monitoring to PGR bodies in the judicial provinces in the face of current challenges.<\/p>\n

He appealed to those present to defend the fundamental rights and guarantees of the population, as well as in the implementation and observance of the principles of legality, preventive detention periods and the proximity of PGR bodies to communities.<\/p>\n

To this end, he said it is essential that each person at their level is relentless, upright and true defender of the State’s interests in carrying out their mission.<\/p>\n

Currently, the PGR in the southern judicial region has 68 public prosecutors, including two at the coordination headquarters, 16 in Cunene, 11 in Cuando Cubango, 26 in Hui\u0301la and 13 in Namibe, 221 justice technicians and 29 general regime employees.<\/p>\n

The two-day meeting will also analyze the functioning of SIGNUP, the impact of the Guarantee judge’s actions on the activity of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the management of preventive detention periods, analysis of appeals filed with the court of second instance.<\/p>\n

The event includes visits to the Santa Clara border post and the memorial to King Mandume ya Ndemufayo in Oihole.<\/p>\n
