Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of Angola summoned this Friday the charge d’affaires of the Gabon Embassy in the country, Wilfrid Mundungue, to ask for explanations about the vandalization of the residence, in Libreville, of the Angolan diplomat Gilberto Veri\u0301ssimo, president of the CEEAC Commission.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), Angola was notified on Thursday of an invasion, by armed men (some wearing Gabonese Armed Forces uniforms), of the official residence of the president of the Community Commission Economic Analysis of Central African States (CEEAC).<\/p>\n

Official reports indicate that the invaders psychologically molested Ambassador Gilberto Veri\u0301ssimo and his assistant, who were inside the residence.<\/p>\n

In light of this serious diplomatic incident, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, vehemently repudiated what had happened and demanded from the Gabonese authorities plausible explanations about the real motivations and purpose against Angolan authorities.<\/p>\n

Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a expressed deep displeasure at what had happened and called, through the Charge\u0301 d’Affaires, for severe measures to be taken against the authors of the act, which jeopardized the safety and physical integrity of the Angolan diplomat, in the exercise of his legitimate statutory mandate. in that country.<\/p>\n

On August 30, 2023, the Gabonese government suffered a military-led coup d’e\u0301tat, which deposed the re-elected president Ali Bongo.<\/p>\n

Recently, the 5th Extraordinary Session of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the ECCAS, within the framework of the Council for Peace and Security in Africa (COPAX), expressly urged the new authorities to continue guaranteeing security conditions for the president, members of the Commission and all its staff.<\/p>\n
