Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The ambassadors of SADC countries to the United States of America (USA) met in Washington DC to strengthen diplomatic ties, promote regional cooperation and discuss issues of mutual interest.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a press release, the meeting, which took place this Thursday, was marked by constructive discussions and significant advances on the interests of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the USA.<\/p>\n

At the opening of the meeting, chaired by Ambassador Agostinho Van-Du\u0301nem, acting president of the Group, he informed his partners that the visit of the Angolan Head of State to the White House in November dealt with issues relevant to the interests of Angola and SADC , including financing the Lobito Corridor (PGII).<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the ambassadors took stock of the 20th Annual Forum on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), in Johannesburg, the economic capital of South Africa.<\/p>\n

Following this meeting in South Africa, the Group of SADC Ambassadors in the USA held meetings with members of the Subcommittee for Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth of the US Senate to advocate, with the White House, more favorable terms of AGOA with a greater extension of its validity.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors highlighted the importance of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a program that plays a crucial role in boosting trade and economic development between the US and African countries.<\/p>\n

They recognized the mutual benefits of AGOA and expressed their commitment to strengthening this trade partnership in order to facilitate the free movement of SADC and US citizens.<\/p>\n

They also discussed visa facilitation with the North American authorities, aiming to promote cultural exchanges, tourism and business.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors emphasized the importance of simplifying visa procedures to facilitate an enabling environment for cooperation and exchange.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the South African Charge\u0301 d’Affaires addressed the complaint filed by his country at the International Court of Justice, in which he accuses Israel of the crime of genocide against Palestine.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, it was decided to create the group that will prepare initiatives to celebrate and promote SADC day, scheduled for March 23rd.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors expressed condolences and solidarity with SADC countries that have been affected by climate crises, floods and the spread of cholera, situations that have caused loss of human life, in addition to material damage.<\/p>\n

The meeting congratulated the countries in the region that held peaceful elections and, in some cases, the inauguration of new government entities.<\/p>\n
