Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Ombudsman, Florbela Arau\u0301jo, defended this Tuesday, in Luanda, the need to pay greater attention to the Accessibility Law in public and private institutions. <\/b><\/p>\n

Florbela Arau\u0301jo, who was speaking after an audience with members of the Angolan Association for the Rights and Inclusion of Women with Disabilities, referred to the fact that the majority of institutional properties and not only, at Luanda level, do not have an access ramp, which which has made mobility impossible for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he said, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing should be requested to carry out inspections of companies, with a view to complying with the aforementioned legislation.<\/p>\n

Regarding employability, he said he will make a recommendation to the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS) so that the 4 percent employment quota for this segment of society is met.<\/p>\n

Presidential decrees No. 237\/11, of 30 August, on Policy for Persons with Disabilities, and No. 238\/11, of 30 August, on the Protection Strategy for Persons with Disabilities and other legal diplomas establish the access for these citizens to primary, secondary and higher education, employment, exemption from paying tax on motor vehicles, housing, scholarships, among others.<\/p>\n

In turn, the president of the Angolan Association for the Rights and Inclusion of Women with Disabilities, Lui\u0301sa Mendonc\u0327a, highlighted that the organization controls around 2,800 women who face various difficulties every day, and therefore advocates the creation of a method to penalize institutions that do not comply with the Accessibility Law.<\/p>\n

He called on MAPTSS to ensure the employment situation of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The official made it known, on the other hand, that the association taught 50 women who were looking for a job to support their families to read and write.<\/p>\n

Data indicate that in Angola there are 656 thousand 257 people with disabilities, which represents 2.5 percent of the country’s population.<\/p>\n

In 2023, a proposal for an inclusion and support plan for people with disabilities 2023\/2027 was created, which provides programs and actions to support these citizens, promoting their protection, as well as better and greater social integration.<\/p>\n
