Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The multimedia exams to obtain a Driving License come into force next week, announced this Friday in Luanda, the general commander of the National Police, Arnaldo Carlos.<\/b><\/p>\n

Arnaldo Carlos, who was speaking to the press at the end of the 1st ordinary session of the National Road and Traffic Planning Council (CNVOT), guided by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, said that the measure aims to reduce the rate of road accidents in the country.<\/p>\n

“The procedures for implementing the aforementioned exams have already been created. The introduction of the multimedia test is one of several CNVOT strategies to reduce the number of road accidents\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Data from the authorities indicate that the country recorded 14,429 road accidents in 2023, 1,069 more compared to the same period in 2022, which caused 3,121 deaths (1,069 more) and 17,902 injuries (+122 ), mostly pedestrians and passengers, aged between 16 and 46.<\/p>\n

For the general commander of the National Police, non-compliance with the rules of the road code, associated with road infrastructure and the poor technical condition of vehicles are the main causes of accidents.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he continued, the introduction of the multimedia exam is considered imperative and urgent, as it is more rigorous in assessing people’s skills, which will have a major impact on reducing road accidents, as well as the loss of lives and considerable material assets..<\/p>\n

\u201cThe introduction of the multimedia exam will also increase, in the most varied ministerial sectors, campaigns to raise awareness and educate the population about the responsibilities to be taken when using vehicles and roads. Likewise, the new radar intelligence system will be implemented, an important instrument in the CNVOT strategies to lower accident rates\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

Street lighting<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Secretary of State for Energy, Anto\u0301nio da Costa, informed that, in 2023, within the scope of the first phase of the project, four thousand lighting posts were installed on several roads in the country, in an investment by the Executive valued at one billion kwanzas.<\/p>\n

He clarified that, in this second phase, the lighting project will include 52 roads with nine thousand lamps, in an investment of six billion kwanzas.<\/p>\n

He said that the section between the 25 bridge, in the municipality of Viana, and Cacuaco, despite the acts of vandalization that has been the target, is benefiting from restoration works, worth 85 million kwanzas.<\/p>\n

Public works<\/p>\n

For his part, the Secretary of State for Public Works, Manuel Molares, made it known that the Government invested Kz 3.6 billion in the recovery of some roads across the country, within the scope of the five-year period 2023 -2027.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, council members analyzed the National Road Safety and Prevention Plan (PNPSR) for the period 2023 – 2027.<\/p>\n

Created under Presidential Decree 18\/13, of April 15, the National Council for Roads and Traffic Planning is the consultation body of the Holder of the Executive Power on matters relating to roads and traffic planning at country level.<\/p>\n

The body is responsible, among other responsibilities, for promoting road traffic safety and proposing the approval of laws and measures aimed at resolving traffic problems.<\/p>\n
