Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Diamond mining continues to attract illegal immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the province of Lunda-Norte, which forces defense and security bodies to carry out increased inspection actions to combat the phenomenon.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson for the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, who presented, this Monday, preliminary data on the “cleaning” operation, many DRC citizens try at all costs to violate the border to enter Angola illegally and develop diamond mining, “sometimes with the help of Angolans”<\/p>\n

He said that during the operation, which aims to combat the strategic mineral mining hotspots, 37 diamond stones, six vehicles, five dredgers, a mini washing machine, 39 motor pumps, 279 gravel washing nets, Mineral13 mopeds and 25 hoses.<\/p>\n

In addition to the means, he said, two thousand and six hundred US dollars, 470 thousand kwanzas, in addition to three thousand and 150 liters of fuel were also seized, which were in the possession of citizens involved in the practice of mining.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the detention of 506 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for alleged illegal exploitation of diamonds, stressing that due to their irregular stay in the national territory, they were immediately repatriated to their country of origin.<\/p>\n

He added that the assets held were handed over to the General Tax Administration (AGT) and the diamonds were sent to the \u201cOperation Transparency\u201d Listing Committee, as trustworthy depositaries.<\/p>\n

Operation “Cleanup” has been taking place since the beginning of this month, in Cambulo, and aims to dismantle several groups of miners.<\/p>\n

The province of Lunda-Norte shares a border of 770 kilometers with the DRC, 650 of which are land and 120 are river.<\/p>\n
