Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan national oil company Sonangol clarified this Monday that the tanker “Marlin Luanda”, hit by a missile in the Red Sea, is not part of its fleet of its own or chartered vessels.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a press release this Monday, the company reinforces that the aforementioned vessel is not owned by Sonangol nor is it under its responsibility, contrary to what certain media reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the danger currently posed by navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region, Sonangol has adopted preventive measures in order to avoid any incidents with ships in its fleet or in its service, meaning that none of its means is close to the region in question\u201d, reads the statement.<\/p>\n

Since the first days of the war between Israel and Hamaz, the Houthis, who control part of Yemen and are supported financially and militarily by Iran, have carried out attacks against commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea.<\/p>\n

The Red Sea is one of the busiest trade routes on the planet, through which 12 percent of global exports pass.<\/p>\n

According to the Houthis, the actions are a way of supporting the resistance in Gaza and target ships flagged or owned by Israeli companies or that have Israeli ports as their destination, even if it is a very quick passage.<\/p>\n
