Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, participates, from the 30th to the 31st of this month, in the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee and Presidents of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community (FP-SADC), in Cape Town, South Africa.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the program, the Angolan delegation is made up of deputy Pedro Sebastia\u0303o, president of the National Monitoring Group for Regional Parliaments; and Pedro Agostinho de Neri, secretary general of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

Angolan parliamentarians are scheduled to participate, on the 30th and 31st of this month, in the South African Legislative Sector Oversight Summit 2024.<\/p>\n

The event will be held under the slogan “Striving for oversight that ensures the realization of a better life for all South Africans”, a partnership between the Forum of Speakers of Legislative Chambers of South Africa (SFSA) and the South African Parliamentary Institute (IPSA)<\/p>\n

The summit, to be opened by the President of South Africa, Ciryl Ramaphosa, aims to promote reflection on the effectiveness of implementing constitutional mandates and explore transformational approaches and strategies to ensure effective oversight of the sector.<\/p>\n

It also aims to share experiences and exchange ideas with regional, continental and regional and international counterparts on effective supervisory practices, as well as explore partnerships and collaboration opportunities with relevant and critical interventions in the supervisory ecosystem.<\/p>\n

The Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) is the regional inter-parliamentary body made up of deputies from the national parliaments of Member States, representing more than 3500 parliamentarians in the Southern African region.<\/p>\n

Created by the SADC Summit on September 8, 1997, the Forum is composed of the president of the session and a maximum of five representatives elected by the National Parliament of each Member State.<\/p>\n

The aim of this Forum is to provide a platform to support and improve regional integration through parliamentary participation and promote best practices in terms of the role of parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.<\/p>\n

The specific themes of the Parliamentary Forum address a wide range of issues, including, among others, promoting human rights, gender equality, good governance, democracy and transparency, promoting peace, security and stability, accelerating the pace of cooperation economic, development and integration based on equity and mutual benefits, facilitation of networking with other inter-parliamentary organizations.<\/p>\n

The objectives also include promoting the participation of non-governmental organizations, companies and intellectual communities in SADC activities, familiarizing SADC citizens with SADC goals and objectives and informing SADC about public opinion on the National Development Program of South Africa and issues affecting the southern region of the African continent.<\/p>\n
