Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Under the title “Between Memes and Metaphors”, the positive results of the National Football Team, in the 34th African Nations Championship (CAN’2023) were highlighted in an article published in the Saturday edition of the Angolan newspaper, by two specialists in sports writing and speaking.<\/b><\/p>\n

In his publication, the professional from Televisa\u0303o Pu\u0301blica de Angola (TPA), Neto Ju\u0301nior, highlights the Palancas Negras’ journey in this continental competition, in which they gained unexpected national support.<\/p>\n

According to the writer, the journey of the National Team, which advances in CAN`2023, brings with it increasing uncertainty.<\/p>\n

He highlighted, however, that the game against Namibia, which resulted in a triumph for the Angolans (3-0), witnessed a turnaround in the collective mood.<\/p>\n

Neto Junior also highlights that it is within this scenario that the suggested memes gain special prominence.<\/p>\n

The ironic criticism of the “fake fans” and the humorous challenges to Brazil’s football powerhouse are not just manifestations of humor, but rather revelations of a renewed self-confidence and a touch of sarcasm characteristic of the Angolan perspective.<\/p>\n

The journalist adds that these expressions become living metaphors for a change in mentality, in which sporting success translates into a bold affirmation of national identity.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, columnist Sousa Jamba, in his publication in the Angolan newspaper, entitled “Epistolas do Oeste”, highlights that the Angolan team has generated immense pride.<\/p>\n

“Criticizing the national team has almost become a team sport, strengthening unity among Angolans. Hope is reborn with the effort dedicated to the return of the glory days” \u2013 le-se\u0302.<\/p>\n

By dedicating himself fundamentally to African football, Sousa Jamba indicates that the sport serves as a tool to promote a collective national identity within countries and at a continental level.<\/p>\n

He highlighted, on the other hand, that Egyptians and South Africans came together for a common cause, a notable contrast to the lack of interest in events such as the African parliament or the complexities of the African Union.<\/p>\n

“I must admit that I haven’t always followed football closely, but recently, my interest in this sport has grown significantly, especially with regards to African football and its global influence” \u2013 he said<\/p>\n

He acknowledged, however, that the recent major games at CAN, which takes place in Co\u0302te d’Ivoire, have been clear demonstrations of how football can serve as a platform for the continent to establish and assert its prominence on the world stage.<\/p>\n

He also recalled that football is a sport with the power to connect people and draw attention to the African continent, transcending borders and cultures, bringing together individuals from different backgrounds to celebrate and enjoy it.<\/p>\n

The National Team qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition taking place in Co\u0302te d’Ivoire, from January 13th to February 11th, 2024.<\/p>\n
