Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, sent a message this Wednesday on the occasion of the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa (31 January), which is celebrated, in which he highlights the importance it must assume for everyone Africans, especially young people, initiatives that lead to the construction of a culture of peace.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Head of State, designated by the African Union (AU), in 2022, Champion for Peace and Reconciliation on the continent, this is a date of great relevance that encourages reflection on the journey made so far and on the path that remains to be taken in the pursuit of achieving the great objectives of peace, stability and reconciliation on the continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI highlight, on this date, the great importance that initiatives that lead to the construction of a culture of peace and lean towards preventive diplomacy as irreplaceable vectors of conflict prevention in our country must assume for all Africans and especially for young people. continent\u201d, he stressed, remembering that the continent is celebrating Peace and Reconciliation Day for the second time.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o highlights that in May 2022, in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, he was designated by the African Union, Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, and from that date onwards, he began to dedicate himself with greater commitment to resolving the conflict taking place in the east of the DRC, as well as contributing to the normalization of political-diplomatic relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda.<\/p>\n

In carrying out these responsibilities conferred on me, he adds, \u201cI have been committed to seeking peaceful solutions to the different conflicts that persist in various regions of the continent, permanently encouraging dialogue and promoting political consultation as a way to strengthen trust and to build understandings between the opposing parties.<\/p>\n

According to the statesman, it is within this spirit that the Republic of Angola seeks to make its best contribution to the construction of a culture of peace, hosting, every two years, the Pan-African Forum for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, \u201c Luanda Biennial\u201d, within the scope of a partnership established between the Angolan Government, the African Union and UNESCO.<\/p>\n

At the end of last year, the third edition of this forum was held in Luanda, in which heads of State and Governments, political entities of different levels and personalities from different branches of social, political and cultural life in our countries participated, so that we can jointly address issues relating to the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence in Africa, he says.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o said that there are no other options other than identifying peace, security and stability, in order to “take care of the urgent task that consists of creating human and material conditions, with the aim of promoting economic development and improving conditions of our populations”.<\/p>\n

It emphasizes that it is with deep concern that there is a growing number of sources of tension and intense conflicts on the continent, such as the war in Sudan and the coups d’e\u0301tat in West and Central Africa, which have torn apart human lives and caused the destruction of the structure social and material aspects of societies and families, where these disputes occur and create instability in neighboring countries and on the continent in general.<\/p>\n

“Governments, political parties, civil society organizations and African citizens in general, we are all called to contribute to harmony, understanding and healthy coexistence”, he said.<\/p>\n
