Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola celebrates this Sunday, February 4th, 63 years since the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, under the motto \u201cPreserving the values \u200b\u200bof the Fatherland, let us honor our heroes\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

The date remains engraved in the history of Angola as it was the milestone of the armed struggle that culminated, 14 years later, with the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975, putting an end to the process of Portuguese occupation and colonization that began in the 15th century..<\/p>\n

It was in the early hours of February 4, 1961 that around 200 Angolan nationalists, armed with machetes and other sharp weapons, launched a series of attacks on several prisons to free political prisoners from the Portuguese colonial regime.<\/p>\n

The attacks on the House of Military Retention, the PIDE jails and the 7th Public Security Police Station, as well as the \u201cOfficial Broadcaster of Angola\u201d in Luanda, culminated in the deaths of 40 nationalists, six police officers and a military man, of according to official data.<\/p>\n

To keep the importance of these historical facts alive and pass them on to subsequent generations, reinforce the sense of patriotism and the values \u200b\u200bof freedom, peace and solidarity, the date was elevated to the category of “National Holiday”.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the determination and sacrifices made by the heroes of the 4th of February, the country is taking sustained steps to consolidate the Democratic State and the Rule of Law, economic and social development and assert itself in the concert of nations.<\/p>\n

A set of measures and actions are currently notable for the structural transformation of the economy, increasing national production and reducing the export of products that can be produced locally.<\/p>\n

The priority is also focused on achieving food security and diversifying income, in a rich country, with fertile soils and abundant water.<\/p>\n

One of the five axes of the ANGOLA Long-Term Strategy \u2013 2050, recently approved, aims to achieve \u201ca diversified and prosperous economy, with emphasis on the sectors of agriculture, livestock, fishing, manufacturing, mineral resources and tourism\u201d.<\/p>\n

Attention continues to be given to investment in infrastructure in the energy, water, transport, housing, education, health and telecommunications sectors, among others, to relaunch economic activity and increase the number of jobs, especially for youth.<\/p>\n

Faced with the current challenges, we are all called to contribute more actively, with patriotism and selflessness to the work for the development of Angola to honor the legacy left by the heroes of the 4th of February 1961.<\/p>\n
