Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The South African president’s statement was made at the opening of the annual mining conference in Cape Town, which brought together African leaders, mining experts and global investors.<\/b><\/p>\n

The African continent has the opportunity to become a central player in the global energy transition, with a focus on mining, said South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n

“Africa has the potential to be the fulcrum of the global energy transition, with mining at its core,” he noted.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa also emphasized the country’s pursuit of an equitable energy transition in a manner that “ensures energy security and creates new opportunities.”<\/p>\n

Commenting on the mining conference where the leader’s remarks were made, he expressed confidence that it will demonstrate the huge potential of the mining industry to stimulate economic growth and create jobs.<\/p>\n

“The actions underway to improve the logistics system will help us to unlock this potential, given that mining companies depend on the rail network and ports to compete in global markets,” Ramaphosa pointed out.<\/p>\n

The Head of State also spoke about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that South African companies are well-placed to take advantage of the zone, revealing that exports to AfCFTA countries account for almost a quarter of South Africa’s global exports.<\/p>\n

The mining conference, or mining indaba, is taking place in South Africa from February 5-8 and includes more than 8,100 attendees, more than 900 investors, and over a thousand executives from mining companies.<\/p>\n
