Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Jurist Afonso Mukanda defended, Monday, in this city, joint work, involving the main institutions that intervene directly and indirectly in the administration of justice, to raise the legal awareness of citizens.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview regarding the 14th anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of the Republic (CRA), held on 5 February 2010, Afonso Mukanda stated that there are a set of norms and rules for harmonious social coexistence, in defense of rights, freedoms and guarantees, but many citizens are unaware of them.<\/p>\n

According to what he said, the issue linked to the raising of the population’s levels of legal awareness and the lack of dissemination of citizens’ fundamental rights is at stake, a work that must be done, either by the Justice and Human Rights delegation, the Attorney General’s Office, as well as by the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE).<\/p>\n

It argues that, due to its nature in dealing with cases that presuppose crime, involving people in vulnerable situations, the office of social action, family and promotion of women must also play a part in disseminating and raising the levels of legal awareness of citizens.<\/p>\n

According to the academic, publicity work must be carried out through the media and beyond, designing programs from a micro perspective, presenting a set of diplomas that aim to illustrate to citizens the perspective of justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is happening is that at the local level little is said about the fundamental rights of citizens\u201d, he highlighted, calling for more openness and communication regarding the fundamental rights of citizens that are set out in the constitution.<\/p>\n

According to the jurist, from the point of view of the effective materialization of citizens’ rights, freedoms and guarantees, there are advances, although more thorough work is needed, because in the Democratic State of Law there are rights and duties, but there is still the lack of legal and democratic awareness on the part of citizens.<\/p>\n

These citizens, according to the jurist, are made up of the population in general, as well as employees of the public-private sectors who often do not understand very well their obligation either in the place of service or in the observance of the implementation and implementation of a service or social equipment by the State, intended for the population.<\/p>\n

CRA values \u200b\u200bhuman dignity<\/p>\n

The jurist stated that the Constitution of the Republic of Angola (CRA) takes human beings into consideration, thus justifying the principle of human dignity, which presupposes that the Democratic Rule of Law must first accept, recognize and protect the person.<\/p>\n

This assumption, according to Afonso Mukanda, constitutes an added value and a fact, both at the institutional level and at the level of coexistence that occurs between citizens, with a relationship between the State as an institution that is the relationship of complementarity of rights and duties and During these years it has been very well implemented.<\/p>\n

Holding regular elections represents respect for the CRA<\/p>\n

Regarding the democratization of the Republic of Angola, Afonso Mukanda highlighted the regular holding of general elections, namely in 2012, 2017 and 2022, as being a gain derived from respect for the CRA.<\/p>\n

He explained that, from a material point of view, the State strictly complies with the regular holding of elections, which represents democratic stability.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that democracy is a space in which any citizen can freely express their will, choosing their legitimate representatives to direct the country’s destinies.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom this perspective, we have witnessed the holding of general elections in Angola, being a positive advance from the constitutional, formal and material point of view of the Constitution and proof that State institutions, especially those linked to the administration of justice, have fulfilled the shaped in the great law\u201d he acknowledged.<\/p>\n
