Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Southern African Trade Union Central Coordination Council (SATUCC) urged, in Johannesburg, South Africa, States to ratify International Convention 97, so that local issues of labor migration are regulated and safeguarded.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview,Teixeira C\u00e2ndido, representative of the General Confederation of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Angola (CG-SILA), at the Seminar on Labor Migration, sponsored by the International Labor Organization (ILO), said that the participants questioned the resistance of Governments to ratify the aforementioned International Convention of the International Labor Organization (ILO), a document that provides States with principles for locally regulating labor migration.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the development agenda of the Southern region 2022\/2030, he clarified that trade unionists defended the urgency of States in the ratification and implementation of Convention 97, in order to guarantee equal rights to citizens of foreign countries who are looking for a job, for several reasons, being the main political and economic instability.<\/p>\n

The secretary general of the Union of Angolan Journalists stressed that the right of foreign citizens to be remunerated according to their activity and the responsibilities they assume, such as the right to be associated with local unions, was defended.<\/p>\n

Teixeira C\u00e2ndido stressed that the seminar participants defended the implementation of mechanisms that can guarantee that foreign citizens are not exploited due to their migratory situation, as has occurred in many countries.<\/p>\n

The unionists considered that the migratory situation cannot be the basis for an unworthy salary or different from a national who does the same task.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by 57 trade unions, who pledged to carry out diplomacy with the ministers of Labor of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in order to raise more concrete actions from them on Labor Migration.<\/p>\n

Since Thursday, in that South African territory, where Angola is represented by UNTA-CS and the Chamber of Commerce, union organizations are discussing strategies to pressure their respective Governments to adopt public policies capable of offering security and equal treatment to citizens of the region looking for work in other countries.<\/p>\n
