Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola deposited on Thursday, at the African Union (AU), the Letter of Accession to the Solemn Declaration to the Single Air Transport Market in Africa, in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the continental organization, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).<\/b><\/p>\n

Delivered by the Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, Miguel Ce\u0301sar Bembe, the letter of accession was signed by the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, on September 29, 2023, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.<\/p>\n

The Angolan diplomat declared that by depositing the aforementioned legal instrument, Angola becomes the 37th Member State to complete this procedure, and reaffirmed the country’s strong commitment to a more integrated and interconnected Africa and as a strong and influential global actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cAngola considers leadership, political commitment, equitable and inclusive participation, citizen empowerment and the revitalization of strategic planning as absolutely essential factors in shaping Africa’s future and ensuring the success of the African continent’s ambitious objectives,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the options of the Long-Term Development Strategy (Angola 2050), a strategic document guiding the entire National Planning System, value the domestication of the main commitments assumed by the Angolan State at regional, continental and international levels, through national plans of development, in the order of 70 percent.<\/p>\n

He added that there is a strong and healthy alignment in Angola between sovereign bodies and national development processes, within the framework of the principle of interdependence, with the National Assembly having approved the Solemn Declaration to the Single Air Transport Market in Africa, through Resolution no. \/23, of September 4th.<\/p>\n

the ambassador said that it is within this framework that the deputies to the National Assembly were unanimous in recognizing the numerous advantages that the Single Air Transport Market will bring to Member States, namely new routes, more frequent flights, better connections and lower prices, boosting, thus, the regional circulation of goods and promoting the mobility of citizens.<\/p>\n

He added that this is a great contribution that will certainly increase the number of passengers and generate a direct and indirect positive effect on trade, business travel and tourism, job creation and improvement in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to continuing the legacy of the founding fathers of the African Union, through the implementation of projects that consolidate ownership of the continent’s destiny and strengthen its position and competitiveness in global affairs.<\/p>\n

In turn, the African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, Amani Abou-Zeid, emphasized the importance of implementing the decision on the creation of the Single Air Transport Market in Africa, adopted by the 24th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, held on 31 January 2015, in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

Among the objectives of the Single Air Transport Market in Africa, connectivity across the continent stands out, towards the sustainable development of the aviation and tourism industries, with an immense contribution to economic growth, job creation, prosperity and integration of Africa.<\/p>\n
