Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola defended Wednesday, at the United Nations, the strategic importance of this organization’s ongoing work with the African Union and regional partners.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the Angolan authorities, this combination of efforts must be, above all, within the scope of the Joint UN-AU Framework for a Strengthened Partnership in Peace and Security on the continent.<\/p>\n

When speaking at the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly in which the Secretary-General, Anto\u0301nio Guterres, presented the priorities for this year, the Permanent Representative of the Mission of Angola, Francisco da Cruz, said that cooperation with regional and sub-national organizations regional issues is essential for promoting dialogue.<\/p>\n

Likewise, it contributes to the prevention of conflicts, advancing political processes, obtaining ceasefires and peaceful solutions in dispute situations.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the diplomat encouraged the UN Secretary-General to continue pushing for the Financial Stimulus of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to face the global financial crisis.<\/p>\n

This, he added, with the aim of mobilizing US$500 billion in new investments to offset the challenging market conditions faced by developing countries and accelerate progress towards the SDGs.<\/p>\n

He also considered it important to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs, especially on health, environment and education issues.<\/p>\n

In relation to the Future Summit, Angola recommends a more inclusive, unified and complementary approach to key issues, \u201cas we continue to pursue this common path towards a promising future for present and future generations\u201d.<\/p>\n

For the Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, the Global Digital Compact must give priority to the development dimension, giving developing countries the opportunity to benefit from technological advances.<\/p>\n

In this context, he highlighted the importance of putting an end to any discriminatory restrictions and ensuring that processes such as the Global Digital Compact and the General Review of the World Summit for the Information Society (WSIS+20) contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Development Sustainable and rapid achievement of the SDGs.<\/p>\n

Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz said that Angola defends a comprehensive reform of the United Nations System with the aim of contributing significantly to the maintenance of the principles, objectives and ideals of the organization’s Charter, towards a fairer world, based on universalism, equity and regional balance.<\/p>\n

Regarding the reform of the Security Council, he reiterated the need for significant progress based on the proposal presented by Member States leading to text-based negotiations, and highlighted the existence of a growing consensus that Africa’s position for two Permanent Seats should be seen as a special case.<\/p>\n
