Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola and the United Nations (UN) system are preparing to carry out, this month, the official launch of the new Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development 2024-2028, signed on December 19 last year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided yesterday by the UN resident coordinator, Zahira Virani, in an exclusive interview, to be published soon.<\/p>\n

The diplomat revealed that the new Cooperation Framework is a contribution from the United Nations to the Angolan Executive, to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

“We worked very seriously with the Ministry of Planning, and our cooperation framework is parallel to the National Development Plan (PDN) of Angola”, explained the UN official, highlighting that the agreement is based on four “p’s”, namely people, planet, peace and prosperity.<\/p>\n

The first “p”, referring to “people”, explained Zahira Virani, has to do with the need for the Angolan population to have access to health, education and social protection services. In relation to the “planet”, he said it is linked to the concern about climate change and the challenges of responding to the phenomenon, while “peace” aims at the purposes of good governance, stability, democracy, space for civil society, voice for young people and inclusion of women.<\/p>\n

Regarding the last \u201cp\u201d of \u201cprosperity\u201d, Zahira Virani explained that it is related to the challenges of the economy and the importance of Angola boosting investment and reinforcing \u201cvalue chains\u201d, so that it produces more and grows economically.<\/p>\n

“We are redoubling our efforts together and the resources to come together stronger. This new cooperation framework will allow us to work more closely with the Angolan Government’s plans. Our focus is human capital, because in 2023 we made a lot in the United Nations system in the areas of Health, Education, Agriculture, but now we need to do much more\u201d, he assured.<\/p>\n

Zahira Virani has been resident coordinator of the United Nations in Angola since September 2020. Before taking up duties in the country, she was resident coordinator in Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe, after having held prominent positions in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).<\/p>\n

The diplomat also worked in the Non-Governmental Organizations sector, accumulating more than 20 years of experience working with humanitarian and development organizations, including leadership projects.<\/p>\n
