Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Diplomats and employees of the Angolan Embassy in Turkey were subjected, on Saturday, to basic notions of risk mitigation in scenarios of earthquakes and other natural disasters, during a visit to the Training Center for Disasters and Emergencies (AFAD), in Ankara.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note, the delegation of the Angolan mission in Turkey, headed by ambassador Jose\u0301 Patri\u0301cio, participated in an earthquake simulation of intensity 7.2 degrees on the Richter Scale, lasting 7 seconds.<\/p>\n

Turkey is located on three tectonic plates that have caused recurring earthquakes. The last earthquake, precisely a year ago, with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter Scale, is the largest recorded in the history of Turkey, leaving more than 62 thousand dead and one million and 500 thousand homeless. The earthquakes, which devastated the Southeast of that country, affected 10 cities, leaving more than 41 thousand buildings destroyed.<\/p>\n

At the end of the training session, ambassador Jose\u0301 Patri\u0301cio thanked the National Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management of Turkey for the initiative, which he considered “very important”, highlighting the fact that the teachings had enlightened the delegation of diplomats on how to proceed in scenarios of earthquakes and natural disasters.<\/p>\n

Participants were given a first aid backpack, essential for evacuation and survival in earthquake situations.<\/p>\n
