Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The director of the Legal Office of the Angolan Insurance Regulation and Supervision Agency (ARSEG), Aldemiro Gonc\u0327alves, lamented this Wednesday the fact that insurance is below one percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).<\/b><\/p>\n

The official, who was speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the seminar on \u201cInsurance and Pension Fund\u201d, addressed to deputies, considered the insurance figure in Angola to be low, a paradigm that could see changes with the ongoing reforms in the sector.<\/p>\n

“It’s a challenge. Reform in the sector comes to generate results, making it easier for people to participate in the market\u201d, she reinforced.<\/p>\n

From now on, he said, ARSEG wants to guarantee that if someone has insurance and, by chance, an accident occurs, the insurance company must compensate, as soon as possible, making the Angolan citizen feel that the insurance actually exists\u201d.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the Insurance Mediation Law was recently approved (end of 2022), globally and finally, meaning there will be a break in the regulatory framework.<\/p>\n

He pointed out as one of the main innovations the fact that banks carry out insurance mediation activities, in a limited way, only with public and business institutions, and cannot do so with individuals.<\/p>\n

However, he clarified, the bank may also provide insurance for individuals when it is related to bank insurance.<\/p>\n

The seminar, aimed at deputies, employees and parliamentary agents, is an activity that forms part of ARSEG’s strategic actions to improve communication with the National Assembly to facilitate the process of discussion and approval of legal diplomas related to the insurance market.<\/p>\n

ARSEG has registered 23 insurance companies and more than three thousand mediators (from a singular point of view).<\/p>\n

The Gross Domestic Product in the third quarter of 2023 totaled 16,938,269 million kwanzas, 195,759 million of which were Taxes on Products Net of Subsidies. In the aforementioned quarter, agriculture recorded 1,654,635 million kwanzas.<\/p>\n

The fishing sector obtained 702,613 million kwanzas, the extraction and refining of oil around 6,012,983 million kwanzas, diamonds, metallic minerals and other non-metallic minerals around 267,947 million kwanzas, the manufacturing industry 1,261,776 million.<\/p>\n

Construction, electricity and water totaled 116,265 million kwanzas, construction (908,851), commerce (3,469,201).<\/p>\n

The Transport and Storage sector raised 156,357 million kwanzas, Mail and Telecommunications (101,607), Financial Intermediation and Insurance (288,109), Public Administration, Defense and Mandatory Social Security.<\/p>\n
