Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The promotion of peace and security, the defense of human rights and sustainable development constitute the main areas of intervention of the CPLP Group of Countries at the United Nations.<\/b><\/p>\n

The group’s priorities were highlighted this Wednesday, in New York, by Angola’s permanent representative to the UN, Francisco da Cruz, during the meeting of ambassadors of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which marked the handover of portfolios of the ad hoc rotating presidency from Angola to Brazil.<\/p>\n

According to the diplomat, the group’s areas of intervention also include the dissemination of multilingualism and cultural diversity, as well as the democratization of international relations and multilateralism.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN, Francisco da Cruz listed, on the occasion, as fundamental objectives of the CPLP at the United Nations, the sharing of information on community developments and policies, as well as providing a platform for the discussion of issues matters of mutual interest in relation to the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The objectives also include sharing information on issues of interest to the respective countries, organizing activities to promote the image of the CPLP, including the celebration of the 5th of May – Portuguese Language and Culture Day in the CPLP -, and promoting the Portuguese language in the Nations United.<\/p>\n

During his intervention, the Angolan ambassador praised the presence of CPLP member states in the Security Council, such as Brazil, whose mandate ended on 31 December 2023, and Mozambique, which remains in the body, which, in his view, , clearly illustrates the importance the community attaches to international peace and security.<\/p>\n
