Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan ambassador to Zambia, Azevedo Francisco, presented, in the Copperbelt region, the strategy to increase the number of registered citizens, within the scope of the unofficial electoral process of updating data, offering financial incentives to help with transport costs.<\/b><\/p>\n

The strategy is an effort by the embassy to make the most of the days granted, on an extension basis, by the President of the Republic last Thursday. Azevedo Francisco informed, during his work trip to the Copperbelt region, on Saturday, that the necessary support will be provided to achieve the objective.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Azevedo Francisco, who was accompanied by the Mongu consular officials, Solwezi, also carried out an assessment of the work in regions with a strong presence of Angolans, where conditions are prepared to receive a greater number of citizens.<\/p>\n

“The idea is to provide minimum financial incentives, which are used to pay for transport and food”, indicates the note from the embassy to which Jornal de Angola had access. in Lusaka, Mongu and Solwezi, although satisfactory, there is room for growth, considering the “greatness” of the Angolan community residing in that country. Therefore, financial incentives were created to help travel from their areas to the registration points.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Zambia is home to the second largest community of Angolans in the diaspora, however, the overwhelming majority of these compatriots live in precarious conditions, with subsistence agriculture and informal trade as the main sources of livelihood.<\/p>\n

Ombudsman<\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan Ombudsman’s Office and its Zambian counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding, in Lusaka, aimed at boosting cooperation in terms of judicial support for the respective citizens residing in both countries.<\/p>\n

Through the aforementioned agreement, Angolans and Zambians can henceforth request legal support, whenever necessary, according to the press release.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, held on Friday, was celebrated by thousands of Angolans residing in Zambia, upon learning of the possibility of support to process documents.<\/p>\n
