Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Eight hundred motorcycle taxi drivers, trained in Highway Code and Road Safety subjects, began receiving their professional licenses this Friday, in this city, for the legal exercise of this activity.<\/b><\/p>\n

The beginning of the delivery of these licenses marks the end of a training course, lasting around 90 days, where trainees addressed various topics, such as the Highway Code, Road Safety and Defensive Driving.<\/p>\n

According to the director of the Provincial Office of Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, Ca\u0301tia Cachuco, vests and stickers characterizing users were also made available to motorcycle taxi drivers, in light of Decree 123\/22, of May, which establishes the formalization of this activity.<\/p>\n

The director recalled that similar acts have already been carried out in the municipalities of Lobito, Catumbela, Bai\u0301a Farta and Bocoio, with more than two thousand beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

The second phase of this process will begin on February 23rd, at the level of the province’s 10 municipalities.<\/p>\n

The person responsible stated that this action is inclusive of everyone who already works as a motorcycle taxi, as well as for those who want to start this type of service.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main objective of this action is to reduce road accidents and all the damage they cause,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The head of transport in Benguela announced that around 12 thousand motorcycle taxi drivers are registered across the province.<\/p>\n

In turn, the vice-governor for the Technical and Infrastructure area, Adilson Gonc\u0327alves, said that the act marks the beginning of a transition period, with greater control, rules and discipline for professionals in this class.<\/p>\n

He recognized that motorcycle taxi drivers constitute a driving force in the mobility of thousands of people, advocating that it is the concern of the Provincial Government of Benguela that they perform these functions in the best possible way, with more safety and better organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that you will be able to pass on what you learned to other colleagues, so that our roads are calmer places”, he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The president of the Association of Motorcyclists and Transporters of Angola (AMOTRANG) in Benguela, Lea\u0303o Ngoma, congratulated the initiative, considering it to be further proof that the Government and partners are working together.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he mentioned that the Association has been in constant dialogue with its members, raising awareness to prevent road accidents, protecting the good “life”.<\/p>\n
