Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The government of the province of Lunda-Norte paid tribute on Wednesday, in Dundo, to the carnival group Unia\u0303o Mundo Samanhonga, for its contribution to the preservation, rescue and dissemination of Lunda Tchokwe culture.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nine-time winner of Carnival in Lunda-Norte, the group, with 47 years of existence, 46 of which dedicated to Shrovetide, has been a hotbed of traditional Tchokwe dance and music and preserves folk musical instruments such as the Ngoma (batuque), Txinguvo, kariaria, among others.<\/p>\n

In their exhibitions, the group always displays the Mwana Pwo, Xaxata and Katoyo masks, symbols of Cokwe culture.<\/p>\n

Another hallmark of the group is the exhibition of male and female initiation rituals (mukanda and cafundeji), which prepare young people for adult life.<\/p>\n

In 2010, the group was honored by the Ministry of Culture, as a result of its contribution to the preservation, valorization and dissemination of Tchokwe folklore, and participated, in 2018, in the central parade in Luanda.<\/p>\n

He has already represented Angola, in particular the province of Lunda Norte, in several festivals in Europe, with emphasis on Germany, Sweden, France, Spain, Cuba and Portugal, where he demonstrated the Txianda dance style, one of the best known in Tchokwe culture.<\/p>\n

During the tribute, the group received an incentive of 200 thousand Kwanzas and a certificate of merit.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the vice-governor for the social, economic and political sector, Frederico Barroso, encouraged the group to continue preserving the culture of the eastern region and transmitting cultural knowledge to youth.<\/p>\n
