Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, spoke, this Saturday, in Addis Ababa, confident in the commitment and dedication of the new acting president of the African Union (AU), Mohamed Al-Ghazouani, to the \u201cgreat causes of Africa\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o was speaking on the first day of the 37th ordinary summit of the AU, which marked the handover from the outgoing president, Azali Assoumani, of the Union of Comoros, to the Head of State of Mauritania as the new president of the organization, at the same time as Bureau of the AU Assembly.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, Angola assumed the role of first vice-president of the AU Assembly Bureau for a one-year term that will serve to prepare its candidacy for the AU presidency for 2025.<\/p>\n

In his intervention, the Angolan President declared himself convinced that the AU will benefit, during Al-Ghazouani’s mandate, from his \u201cdynamism and dedication to the great causes of Africa, the development and consolidation of democracy, peace and of the security of our continent\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wishing him good work and \u201cmuch success\u201d, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o said he made himself available, as President of the Republic of Angola and first vice-president of the AU Assembly, to contribute to the good performance and success of his mission.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he congratulated the outgoing president \u201cfor the assertive and committed way in which he led the AU in a critical period full of uncertainties\u201d arising from the security crises that the world is experiencing.<\/p>\n

He said he is convinced that the work carried out during 2023 will be crucial so that we can take important steps towards the growth of our organization and the development of the African continent.<\/p>\n
