Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, returned to the country this Sunday night, after participating, in the city of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in the 37th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) summit, which began on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Head of State was received, upon his arrival at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

During his visit to Addis Ababa, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o also held separate meetings with his counterparts from Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi, on the sidelines of the African Union summit.<\/p>\n

He also interviewed the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Aby Ahmed, host of the 37th AU summit, with whom he reviewed the state of bilateral relations, after the signing of a General Cooperation Agreement and another on visa exemption in diplomatic passports and service.<\/p>\n

His first activity, in the Ethiopian capital, was to preside over an extraordinary summit on the situation in eastern DRC in the presence of nine heads of state, including Paul Kagameh and Tshisekedi, in a meeting called on his initiative.<\/p>\n

The Angolan head of state called the meeting in his capacity as AU mediator in the conflict between the DRC and Rwanda and as part of diplomatic efforts to relaunch the peace process in eastern DRC.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he clarified that he decided to invite his African counterparts to the meeting in an attempt to \u201csee if we can get the process of pacification in the DRC on track\u201d.<\/p>\n

He recalled that this process was very close to achieving progress, at least in relation to one of the negative forces acting in the DRC, namely the M23, but which regrettably registered a major setback.<\/p>\n

Currently, the peace process in the DRC is described as being in an \u201cexplosive phase\u201d with the resumption and worsening of military confrontations between government forces and the M23 (March 23 Movement) rebels.<\/p>\n
