Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan State stops collecting 63.9 billion kwanzas due to the reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on the main consumer products, from 14 to 5%, a measure in force since January this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The fact was revealed this Thursday, in Luanda, by the director of the VAT Service of the General Tax Administration (AGT), Joa\u0303o Love, on the sidelines of the ‘Outlook Fiscal’ conference, promoted by the consultancy Deloitte.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the source recalled that the reduction in VAT and, consequently, the abdication of revenue collection results from the analysis carried out by the State on the current socio-economic condition of companies and families, marked by the low purchasing power of essential goods for food.<\/p>\n

Among the widely consumed food products that must be taxed at 5% of VAT, meat and offal of beef, pork, sheep and goats, poultry (except turkey and goose), fish (except shark, salmon and cod), stand out. milk, yogurt and butter.<\/p>\n

The package also includes eggs, edible vegetables, fruits, tea, cereals, corn and wheat flour, cooking oil, sugar, pasta, bread and other pastries, water and salt, among others.<\/p>\n

In addition to alleviating the population’s cost of living, the VAT director said that this measure also encourages the formalization of the national economy, with the insertion of new companies into the formal circuit, a fact that could significantly cover or compensate for the current loss.<\/p>\n

During the conference on the main economic changes in the country, Joa\u0303o Love also pointed out the reduction from 2 to 1% of the VAT rate on products and the reduction from 7% to 1% of stamp duty for companies that, until 31 December 2023, they had to pay this tax, in the province of Cabinda, as well as other advantages of the diploma approved by the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

For his part, the president of the AGT Board of Directors, Jose\u0301 Leiria, recalled that the Angolan VAT rate is one of the lowest in the SADC region, which is above 5%. Angola also has a 25% Corporate Income Tax Rate, compared to the region’s average of 26.6%.<\/p>\n

At the level of the AGT Tax Studies Center, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, the manager said that they are working on the design of the Personal Income Tax, a strategy to be presented later this year to the economic team and, subsequently, be taken to public consultation.<\/p>\n

He said that the Angolan tax system is under construction, and also requires the necessary consensus to make it more balanced and adjusted to the country’s reality.<\/p>\n

Additionally, he also mentioned that AGT wants to work towards being ready for international tax initiatives.<\/p>\n

The head of Delloite’s Tax Consulting area, Renato Carreira, highlighted the reform of the single tax as a process that will help simplify payment for companies, which will pay based on their profits.<\/p>\n

The ‘Fiscal Outlook’ conference, which was attended by businesspeople, experts from different fields and public managers, aimed to promote debate on the implementation of current socio-economic measures in Angola.<\/p>\n
