Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The secretary general of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP), Georges Chicoty, praised, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the contribution of Angola, in particular the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, in the creation conditions for the normal functioning of the institution he directs.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, at the end of the 1st Joint Parliamentary Plenary Session of the OEACP-EU, Georges Chicoty highlighted the engagement of Angolan diplomacy, in favor of promoting the country’s image.<\/p>\n

\u201cHolding this event is also an occasion to promote the country’s image, as the Head of State spared no effort, in recent months, to put Angola in its rightful place. The European Union increasingly intends to invest in Angola, as it will invest in the Lobito Corridor, which means that Angola will be at the center of relations between the EU and Africa\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Samoa Agreement, officially signed on November 15, 2023, replacing the Cotonou Agreement, which was in force between the EU and the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, the Angolan diplomat considered it to be quite global, which could open perspectives on sustainable development, climate change mitigation, trade, economic cooperation, good governance and the promotion of peace.<\/p>\n

For this reason, he encouraged the organization’s member states to ratify the diploma, in order to \u201cseal an increasingly constructive relationship\u201d.<\/p>\n

Guinea-Bissau requests support from the OEACP<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the director of the office of the president of the National Popular Assembly of Guinea-Bissau, Rute Monteiro, requested support from the OEACP for the political stability of her country and the normal functioning of democratic institutions.<\/p>\n

Rute Monteiro, who participates in the event as an observer, as Guinea-Bissau has not yet ratified the Samoa Agreement, considered the Presidential Decree that dissolved the Guinean Parliament unconstitutional, justifying that the measure violates the country’s Magna Law,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a Presidential-initiated Government, which is unconstitutional, since the elections took place in June 2023. The Constitution itself and the Electoral Law prevent the existence of two electoral acts in the same year, so Parliament should not be dissolved because I had been in office for four months\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he said, \u201cour coming to Luanda is an attempt to draw the attention of our partners, our friends, that democracy in Guinea-Bissau does not exist, respect for human rights is a mirage. We hope and eagerly await unconditional support from the OEACP for the restoration of constitutional legality\u201d.<\/p>\n
