Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola will participate in the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), starting on Monday, in Geneva, Switzerland, with a vast agenda to be marked by interactive dialogues, with emphasis on the debate around of the report on the occupied Palestinian territories and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice in similar situations.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the diplomatic representation in this country, during the event, which is scheduled to end on April 5th, others will also be addressed such as the elimination of racial discrimination, the rights of people with disabilities, violence against children and armed conflicts and albinism.<\/p>\n

High-level dialogue sessions will also take place throughout the 55th session, where participants will have the opportunity to share the national position on the issue of Human Rights.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation to the event is led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a, assisted by the Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Janua\u0301rio, as well as by ambassador Margarida Izata, Permanent Representative of the Angolan Mission to the United Nations and other International Organizations, in Geneva.<\/p>\n

The delegation also includes diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Angola and technicians from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice and Human Rights.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the opening session of the CDH will be in charge of the new President of this body, the Moroccan ambassador Omar Zniber, elected in January for a one-year term.<\/p>\n

Testimonies, including via videoconference, from the UN Secretary-General, Anto\u0301nio Guterres, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Tu\u0308rk, will mark the opening session.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the agenda of this 55th session of the HRC, on 29 February, as already mentioned, the Council will hold an interactive dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner on the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice, at a time when the humanitarian situation on the ground is taking on unprecedented proportions.<\/p>\n

On March 26, there will be an “interactive dialogue” with the UN special rapporteur for the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, the Italian Francesca Albanese.<\/p>\n

Also on March 26, there will be a presentation of the reports of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General on the situation of Human Rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, and the general debate on this item on the agenda.<\/p>\n

The Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations system made up of 47 States elected by a majority of the 193 States of the United Nations General Assembly, which is responsible for strengthening the promotion and monitoring the protection of human rights throughout the world.<\/p>\n

The Council was created by the United Nations General Assembly on March 15, 2006 with the main objective of addressing situations of human rights violations and making recommendations in this regard. Each Member State has a three-year term, renewable once.<\/p>\n
