{"id":56953,"date":"2024-02-25T17:08:24","date_gmt":"2024-02-25T17:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/angola-debates-car-situation-in-new-york"},"modified":"2024-02-25T18:47:49","modified_gmt":"2024-02-25T18:47:49","slug":"angola-debates-car-situation-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/angola-debates-car-situation-in-new-york","title":{"rendered":"Angola debates CAR situation in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>The situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) dominated, this Friday, in New York, the meeting between the permanent representative of Angola to the United Nations, Francisco da Cruz, and the head of the Independent Strategic Review of MINUSCA, Edmond Mulet.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>MINUSCA (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic) has been in existence for 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The two interlocutors highlighted the progress made regarding the dissolution of armed groups and political processes, which allowed the restoration of State authority in more than 85% of the national territory.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release, the interlocutors recognized the challenges to be overcome, especially in some parts of the country, where there is a presence of armed groups, motivated by the looting of minerals and illegal activities.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Ambassador Francisco da Cruz welcomed and encouraged the efforts being made by the CAR authorities to achieve peace in this country.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that, within the framework of his responsibilities, as president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), Angola held, on September 16, 2021, in Luanda, the Summit of Heads of State and Government that adopted the Joint Roadmap for Peace.<\/p>\n<p>He added that its implementation recorded significant progress, aiming to promote peace and security in this country, \u201cwhich constitutes a gain for the stability of the region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Along the same path, he said, in October 2023, the Strategic Committee for Supervision of the Political Process for Peace in the CAR carried out an evaluation of the process, verifying progress in the implementation of the Peace Agreement and the fulfillment of some tasks of six axes contained in the road map.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that the Roadmap foresees engagement with the leaders of armed groups, the ceasefire, the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Program, the reform of the security sector, border control and the political process.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Edmond Mulet said that MINUSCA seeks to carry out completely independent work<\/p>\n<p>He praised the level of political stability and evolution in the CAR, which has already held two elections, with the third election scheduled for 2025 being prepared.<\/p>\n<p>He defended a strategic review as crucial to ensure the coherence and relevance of the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Through resolution 2709 (2023), the Security Council requested the Secretary-General to provide, by 15 August 2024, an Independent Strategic Review of MINUSCA with detailed recommendations on the possible reconfiguration of the mandate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\">Angola<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola.
