Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>An Angolan delegation, led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Migue\u0301ns, participates from monday until the 29th of this month in the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.<\/b><\/p>\n

The global meeting evaluates the trade policies and programs of the 164 member countries and is attended by several ministers, heads of delegations from participating countries and representatives of international economic and trade organizations.<\/p>\n

According to a press release, the Ministerial Conference is the highest deliberative body of the WTO that regulates and facilitates global trade and is the only organization that represents 98% of global trade and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) global.<\/p>\n

Rui Migue\u0301ns considered Angola’s participation in the WTO meetings positive, in which it brings together several leaders and decision-makers from around the world, with a view to mobilizing consensus on key urgent issues, to stimulate global trade, and said that contributions of the country with that international organization were welcomed.<\/p>\n

According to the document, this conference is to discuss the rules and regulations that govern global commercial activities, exchange ideas and views on appropriate solutions to the challenges faced by international trade, as well as explore ways to promote economic development.<\/p>\n

To this end, the meeting will discuss various topics, including the exploitation of marine resources, as well as how countries in a coordinated and planned manner can make use of marine resources in a sustainable manner, without this posing a risk of extinction. of the same.<\/p>\n

However, in specialized discussions, on the sidelines of the WTO Assembly, Angola presented several concerns in which the inclusion, in one of the articles formulated by the WTO, of Artisanal Fishing as an essential element for maintaining the national economy and safeguarding the interests of families stands out. who live from fishing.<\/p>\n

Regarding Investment Facilitation for Development (IFD), a subject discussed before the start of the plenary sessions, Angola agreed to the project as it found in this \u201cIFD Agreement\u201d a broad acceptance of the many investment needs of developing and less developed countries that are fundamental to poverty eradication, economic diversification and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

IFD must mobilize financial, technical and capacity-building support, without which its generosity cannot be transformed into investment opportunities for the sustainable development of least developed countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe organization deals with the regulation of trade between its Member Countries, provides a framework for the negotiation and formalization of trade agreements and a conflict resolution process that aims to reinforce participants’ adherence to WTO agreements, which are signed by representatives of the Governments of the Member States\u201d, reads the statement.<\/p>\n

He highlights that Angolan staff have benefited from the facilities provided by the World Trade Organization (WTO), participating in several training cycles linked to investments.<\/p>\n

During the Ministerial Conference, the accession of Comoros and Timor-Leste to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was also officially approved as the first new members since 2015.<\/p>\n

Joining the WTO will allow the two new countries to fully participate in the international trading system, accelerating their development efforts and providing greater incentives for the international investments needed to support their economies.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation to the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) includes the Secretary of State for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Anto\u0301nio Jose\u0301 da Silva, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Angola to the United Arab Emirates, Ju\u0301lio Belarmino Gomes Maiato.<\/p>\n

Staff from the Ministries of Industry and Commerce and Fisheries and Marine Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) and the Angolan Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX) are part of the delegation.<\/p>\n
